I showed these pics to my family and they were blow away with the amount of rust. I am glad the car is being saved and if it were mine I would make sure all the VIN's were on the finished car in the correct locations. Since there is no intent to defraud and I assume you have a title for #19 there should be no problem with that. Even if I had to stitch some metal in to make that happen. Also in most states the VIN on the chassis is the one that matters most all of the attached tags are secondary...

Money and time aside it takes real heart, vision, skill, and passion to bring a car like that back to life.  As others have said, we all applaud you for taking on this massive project of saving #19.  You are doing great work Ozzy Man.  I love this thread and check in with it almost every day now to see if there is something new.  We look forward to more updates!

That you passed up on #63 and #86 - as they were in better condition. But better condition doesn't mean much compared to #19. How would you rate those cars compared with #19? Admittedly #19 is pretty far gone compared to most S30z's I've seen for sale, but it's also the 3rd oldest HS30 prefixed car I know of after HS30 0004 and HS30 00016.

 

 

It can be worth the money when you find a buyer in Japan.

 

 

I tend to agree, although I don't think it will necessarily have to be a Japanese collector. I think S30z's have worldwide appeal and a car like this may just offer a return on investment yet!

Both had been neglected for some years and both required a 'nuts and bolt' restoration which I believe they are receiving now. Well, I know one of them is being looked after. They were undoubtedly in better shape than what I ended up with and had more savable parts as well.

 

At the time I wasn't willing to do a full restoration and wanted something ready (or near enough) to drive. They also wanted way more than what I thought they were worth but in retrospect they were priced reasonably.

 

By the time 19 came up I had been in the market for some months and saw the values escalate rapidly. I also came around to the long term view with this purchase, something which has always eluded me. Must be getting old...

Most of the car is still there. There's a surprising amount of metal left considering the damage done to it by the elements. All the guts are present and usable. The glass I should be able to save. Interior was shot. The paintwork I couldn't save...

So we know about 11 cars in total under HS30 00100. Considering some went to NZ, the UK, Australia, possibly ZA (South Africa). Who knows how many more there could be? Not many, and in what shape? Original? Modified for racing? Wrecked? Rusted? Bent?

 

Survival rate is looking like ~10% so far...for the very first cars in Australia maybe less?

 

Under HS30 00200 - we know of 22 cars (1 being turned into a GTO). So again this suggest a 10% survival rate and verification of certain cars is not easy and who knows if the details on WA Z Register are accurate or just details people have entered because they once owned that car. Not necessarily know if it still exists.

 

Between 200-300 there is 7 cars.

Between 300-400 there is 6 registered cars.

 

I'm sure I've seen a few more on eBay / Gumtree recently in the 300-400 range, all in very average sad state.

 

All this suggests less than 50 good cars (maybe 10-15 great examples max of original condition cars) in the HS30 00400 range and under. Wow!

Progress has been slow on my end as I've become a father to a very energetic and happy little boy. He brightens every day of my life and I haven't been able to bear to draw myself away from him and slave away in the garage while he's experiencing a lot of firsts.

Fortunately progress has been made with the body by a skilled team over 1,300km away.
