Electric fuel pump question

That is a Airtex/Webcon fuel pump, just installed one to my Z yesterday :D Funny, havent seen it installed in engine bay, it would be much more efficient near fuel tank. Btw. why do you still use mechanical as well?

I just bought the car so trying to figure out the setup. I guess If one fails you still have the other. Probably would be better in back If only using electric pump.

Do I need to regulate the pressure or is it enough? I think its only 6 volts it looks exactly like this Airtex E8902 6 Volt Low Pressure Fuel Pump or Primer Pump 2 5 4PSI 30GPH | eBay

Where do I hook up electrical near fuel tank? I have been reading to put an inline filter before pump to avoid problems.

"The pump started operating intermittently, and that was a pain to understand (was it the wiring, the ignition switch, clogged filter, clogged line from the tank.....), and then failed completely. The designers used an unprotected control chip in a 6 volt pump destined for old vehicles known to experience all kinds of voltage spikes. When I called tech support the individual explained that the power to the pump must be filtered, especially if the pump is actuated through the ignition key. DAAAAA That is the normal way of connecting the pump, yet there was no warning instruction or filter recommendation.

You can see by looking at the circuit including the key and ignition coil that turn off the key creates a reverse voltage spike in excess of 100 volts across the pump, requiring a diode, and possibly a capacitor, to protect the electronic chip. Basic electrical engineering. These elements should have been part of the chip design. As designed, every buyer can expect an early failure."

I just bought one like yours! I was using the e8016s which is 2.5 to 4 psi but it lacked power! Do you need to use a regulator with this one? Does it overpowers the needles and seats due to its bigger pressure?

Power doesn't come from pressure!!!! Power comes from fuel! If it flows enough fuel then the pressure is irrelevant. Figure out if it is pumping enough fuel. Do the flow test from the FSM. These are not large engines they don't need a ton of fuel. 30 GPH is overkill.

 Jalex.

 I'm quite sure the pump you have will work just fine. The pressure specs. on the pump are exactly what you need.You don't even need the FSM flow test specs. Just disconnect the coil wire, pull the f. line after the pump, insert into a fuel proof vessel & crank the engine with the starter. You'll know immediately if it's pumping enough fuel to idle & rev the engine. As Patcon said, these engines don't need much fuel but it does have to be at the proper height in the bowl.
