Posted February 20, 201411 yr comment_441939 I am sure many of you fellow Z owners have installed an electric fan on the radiator. I ordered an aluminum radiator and have a 12v fan to install on it. Where is the most common point to tap into the wiring system? I have a thermostat with a capillary tube as a sensor to install in line with the hot wire. Thanks,Charlie Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/48607-where-should-i-get-12v-for-an-electric-fan-on-the-radiator/ Share on other sites

February 20, 201411 yr comment_441946 I would take power from the battery or alternator but as Steve says, a properly sized relay and fuse is a must. February 21, 201411 yr comment_441952 What is the current rating on the fan? That will determine the wire size. The wire size will determine the fuse size. You will want a thermostatic switch for the fan. Wire an SPST relay to the ignition circuit. Pole 85 gets the 12VDC+. Pole 86 goes to ground. Pole 87 gets power from the battery (Put an inline fuse between the battery and the relay close to the battery.), and pole 30 goes to the positive on the fan. The negative side of the fan gets wired to the thermostatic switch, and the other side of the switch goes to ground. February 21, 201411 yr Author comment_441978 Thanks to all! Now I can move forward. I was given the fan so I will have to see if there is a current rating on it somewhere so I can get the right size wire.Charlie Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/48607-where-should-i-get-12v-for-an-electric-fan-on-the-radiator/#findComment-441978 Share on other sites
