I'm not sure but a machine shop should be able to tell you. I think they do some kind of sonic testing to measure the wall thickness and go from there. Wouldn't you rather get a L28 block and bore it?

I'm with Ed on this one. If you are wishing to bore the motor, you obviously want more displacement. The L28 comes stock with about 400cc's more of displacement. If you wish to bore that block you will still have the same options as with the L24 since they have the same bore. The L28 paired with a good high compression head will yield better results than just a bore job on the L24. Just a thought.

I wanted to stick to my L24.

I've been getting the impression that the L28 is the way to go. The 3.1 conversion

definitely makes me think.

I want to run triple webers and have a

great street/race car. I am probably going to do the 3.1L bore and stroke, what do you guys recomend?

I also want 300+ horses.

What do you guys traditionally do to acomplish the triple weber L28 performance setup?

L24 has 83mm pistons. L28 has 86mm pistons. Boring an L24 to 86mm is going to cost you more money then just going and getting a used L28 from a junkyard that already has 86mm bore and pistons.

The 3.1L strokers have alot of power, but I don't think its anywhere close to 300hp. I think if you want 300+ hp you need to think turbo and just how much money you want to spend because its going to get expensive.

You may want to think about an L28 with maybe an E88 or N42 head, oversized pistons, and performance cam.

300hp is attainable with enough money for sure. However, make sure that the car can handle the grunt. If it is an early (70 or 71) Z then the car is not as rigid as the later ones. Also, if any rust has been found in the rails, or pans that will need to be cut and replaced and strengthened. You will also want to make sure that the tranny and diff are up to the new power. I would hate for you to reach your 300hp goal and then snap the car in half.

Always remember: With cars, if you change one thing, a half a dozen other things are going to be affected. Think through this chain of parts and you will have a successful buildup.

you would be hard pressed and have a lot of money spent getting a n/a to 300 crank hp.

you would be better off using a 280ZXT and upping boost, ic rrfpr, and the like to get an easy 250 260 hp. getting to 300 would be much easier also and much less expensive

also you will still be streetable instead of trying to run on homeade race gas.

I wanted to bore my l24 because I have access to a boring machine. I can have my block bored for FREEE! That was my motivation for wanting to bore it out.

But, as a great man once said, "if any thing is worth doing, it's worth doing right." So i'm just going to hold of until i get a hold of an f54 block.
