May 29, 20159 yr comment_470798 Soo glad I was wrong. Good job finding it. I likely would have started tearing things apart only to confirm nothing was wrong & have to keep searching. May 29, 20159 yr comment_470801 I bet you feel like superman after finding a simple fix to what looked like an enormous problem. Good start to the weekend. May 29, 20159 yr comment_470803 I feel like this is thr kind of problem I seem to have over and over. Simple fixes that appear to be larger than they are, and therefore immensely stressful. Cheers again for the starter advice, that gear reduction model is nothing short of insane. July 7, 20159 yr Author comment_473343 The motor lives! Setting the timing was a pain. the motor does not have a timing marker with various degrees listed, its just a pointer and a mark on the crank at TDC. I called up Rebello and got some helpful advice on getting the motor running. After purchasing a super bad arse timing light (Innova 5568) that would allow me to adjust the timing flash to a specific degree of timing everything got easy. In addition to dialing in my timing preferences the light also has a tach, voltmeter and measures dwell. Essentially i left the light plugged in while using my carb flow meters so i had real time feedback on what the engine was doing while balancing the carbs out. This motor is rev happy! Next up is finalizing everything, triple checking the installation and then a quick drive over to the exhaust shop since i literally blew up my muffler. Next on my list of tools is a wide band o2 meter. Oranngetang what model did you end up with? July 7, 20159 yr comment_473344 Innovate DLG-1. What is your idle timing and maximum timing advance? IE: -10* and -36*. 280zx dizzy or stock? I have the pertronix setup replacing my points, otherwise stock. I'd say this car is putting down 200hp at the wheels y butt dyno. I need to find a chassis dyno in the region that'll have time for tuning with a few needles. Youtubing DIY dyno building. Kidding... July 7, 20159 yr Author comment_473346 I was about to ask you the same. I havent done any excessive tuning but my idle timing looks like its -33* degrees, which seems crazy high to me. I am using the stock 260z dizzy which Dave said was going to work. I intend on upgrading the whole ignition system after this is a fully functional car again Edited July 7, 20159 yr by Kurbycar32 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/48675-just-ordered-my-rebello-30-now-what/?&page=18#findComment-473346 Share on other sites
July 7, 20159 yr comment_473350 I need to verify. Couldn't find my digital light w advance when I set and Dave has 4 timing marks on my pulley I'm assuming are 0, 5, 10 and 15. He said to set base at 10 degrees and leave the vacuum advance disconnected on my engine. Couldn't give me a total advance number. July 7, 20159 yr comment_473351 I'm guessing if you're running at a base of -33 your mechanical advance is stuck on you. That seems excessive, as I believe I gain about 25 degrees from my mechanical swing. July 7, 20159 yr comment_473354 I honestly am not sure. Someone else will need to chime in on that assuming I have a '70. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/48675-just-ordered-my-rebello-30-now-what/?&page=18#findComment-473354 Share on other sites
July 7, 20159 yr comment_473355 Yes. the stock 260 distributor has a vacuum controlled mechanical advance feature. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/48675-just-ordered-my-rebello-30-now-what/?&page=18#findComment-473355 Share on other sites
July 12, 20159 yr comment_473679 28-32 advance from the mechanical on my 240 dizzy. If I start at 10, total bounces 28-32, though for some reason it's a sporadic reading, and the position of the inductive pickup seems to matter a lot...
