Yet Another SoCal 240!

Hi all! I'm new here and to Nissans/Datsuns, so will be doing a ton of searching through this forum, along with all the bookmarks that I've accumulated thus far from some of your postings.

Brief background: born/raised in LA. My first car was a 1980 Toyota Celica, then just before graduating high school, I got an 1984 Mazda GSL. Then nothing worth mentioning for several years, and a few years back, I got my first Euro - a 2007 Audi A3 (which remained mostly stock), and now own a highly modified 2011 Audi A4 Avant as my daily driver. I also briefly had a 1985 Mazda GSL-SE and a 1973 Mazda RX3 Wagon (gotta admit that I am/was a rotor head) - both of which I just got rid of, and substituted for my first Datsun/Nissan!

I'm heading up north to go look at the car tomorrow, and unless there's something drastically wrong with it, I should be driving it back home with me.

Pictures to follow...

Nice find! Welcome to the club. Tell us more about it. Year, mileage, history if known, rust issues[if you aren't aware of rust issues in Zs, it's time to find out], any modifications, future plans & lots of pics, Not too much to ask but don't let it interupt your seat time. Enjoy your new toy.

Thanks for the welcome! :)

So here's what I know:

This is a 2 owner car, with the most recent one having it the last 36 years, and lived in Northern California (in the Dublin area). Prior to that, the original owner bought it new from McCrea Datsun in Eureka (I know this because I have the original warranty/service booklet with that info. Since it remained in CA (now in SoCal), I am very happy to report that it still has the original blue/yellow license plates that the car was initially assigned.

The car is a Series IV Metallic Green #113 (it seems that this is not a very well-liked color, but I love it), and repainted very poorly in 1994, but looks great from about 5-10' away. The original motor was replaced, along with the tranny at some point, but do not know the details - the odometer reads 90,152, btw. I also believe the carbs are not the Hitachi SUs - will look when I get a chance. I have some maintenance records, none which looked like anything major had to be done - oil pan gasket, fuel pump, A/C, etc. There is very little rust - the worst being in the battery tray area. I looked at the other usual spots, and they all seem fine. The interior is in very good shape: one small crack on the dash, all gauges/lights are functional (except the tach is jumpy), radio functions, etc. Unfortunately, the previous owner carpeted over the diamond stitch butterscotch interior, so along the center console and the rear struts, they are now covered with black carpeting.

I am planning on an "OEM+" look, so no significant mods that can't be reverted to original - wheels, minor engine work (to give it a little bit more oomph), and mostly getting all the little cosmetic stuff ironed out. BUT, I think I've said that about all my previous cars I've owned, so we shall see. ROFL Already going through this forum has put a lot of thoughts into my head, but luckily, my bank account will prevent me from going too crazy. I would like to start a build thread, but wasn't sure which forum is the most appropriate for that - of course I'll post as many photos as you all can tolerate.

Finally, it would be great to meet some locals from the LA area, and hoping to see some of your cars in person one day. Speaking of which, it looks like there's a meet this Friday in Downey, so if anyone is planning on being there, I'll probably be the only green Z in the lot. :)
