resetting odometer - any better ideas than with a drill?

I have done the research. I doubt this is the correct forum for such a conversation, but when I use the term "nanny state", I refer to the socialization of just about everything in society, no longer left to the individual to what is best for him, but left to what is best for society as a whole. The US is becoming more and more like that, and not just with this current administration.

Why should I be forced to pay for the care of someone else as a higher priority than my own family? The notion is barbaric, but here we are nonetheless.

Anyway, about the Z. I am keeping receipts, taking photos, even recording videos of the progress of the rebuild. I think any buyer of a Z would, if I was honest about the rollback of the odometer, would understand why I did.

That's because society as a whole has lost the meaning of things like 'Freedom" and "Liberty" and how to use them responsibly in everyday life. They get their "facts" and "morals" from TV and tabloid magazines. instead of from "The Good Book" and people insist that you become "politically correct" to make everybody happy.

If it's "All about You," then you ought to see people getting chastised for most any little thing, starting with simple courtesy sand respect for your fellow American.

I also keep the receipts for the Z; the ones that are involved with significant repairs or improvements, for when I feel the need for some antique car insurance for the FULL value of the car, not just what the insurance company feels they will pay for minor repairs.

You gave me an idea! A movie starring an S30 (or two!) where guys dressed in straight-leg jeans and button-front shirts drive around the country looking for virtuous things to do while saving girls and being rewarded with a cold beer, electric guitars and cool Rock music. They always foil the attempts of politically-correct morons, get the trophy for road racing, and always drive off into the afternoon-sun. Like a cross between a "Herbie" movie, James Bond, and Clark Kent. :rambo: :cheeky:

No gay guys, but I'll promise to smile a lot. Plus, I'll drive my 280Z, an you can have a 240Z. I don't watch "shows," so it'll have to be a movie.

The girls will have to stay home with mom & dad. A few loose ends leaves an opening for a sequel.

I took my Chevy truck speedometer to a speedometer shop, had them turn it to zero after I had the motor rebuilt. Not that anyone would ever think the old '63 truck would be low-mileage - I just wanted to keep track of mileage on the new engine for break-in, maintenance, etc. But then I had to provide mileage for insurance. So I had to figure the actual mileage by adding the odometer mileage to about what it is was when I put the rebuilt engine. But then one year I goofed, and added 10000 miles extra. That put me in a higher insurance bracket. So I went to the insurance company and had to explain everything. They believed me, only because the mileage I'd been giving them was higher than on the odometer. I've had to shorten the story to lessen the boredom but that's the gist of it. Now every year they take a photo of the odometer.

Would I do it again? Hell no.

someone here once said that they put a piece of tape on the speedometer face with rebuild: 79,000 or something like that. It seems like a good way to remind yourself. You could also stick it on the glovebox door so it's not easily seen.
