Posted April 23, 201410 yr comment_446475 Hello,My Front sway bar end links and bushings arrived, and I thought I might as well try and sand the bar down (I don't have access to a sand blaster) and give it a quick shot of paint.Any suggestions for paint? How much does a sway bar flex, will I need a special flexible paint? April 23, 201410 yr comment_446476 When I did mine, I used the same paint that I used on all of my suspension parts and that was Eastwood rust encapsulator (as a primer) and Eastwood Extreme Chassis Black as a top coat. Came out great and I have not noticed any flaws in the paint from flexing or any other movement that may take place with that part.Although I was very satisfied with the result, if I had to do it over again I would have it (and all of my suspension parts) power coated as I believe this will ultimately hold up better than paint in the long run.Hope this helps.Mike. April 25, 201410 yr Author comment_446619 Thanks for the advice. Removed the sway bay today, will pickup a wire wheels and some paint today to tackle this project. Powder coating is not going to be an option this time around. April 25, 201410 yr comment_446631 I recommend an acid-cleaning product similar to POR's Metal Ready after you strip all the old paint and rust. If going with POR-15 paint, this is their recommended prep and is a good step for any paint process. If you're using another type paint, use a self-etching primer to get a good seal down into the metal. April 26, 201410 yr Author comment_446649 ^ Thanks for the suggestion. I didn't end up getting paint or POR as I was unsure of a primer. So this info is greatly appreciated. Wire brush is cleaning it up nicely. Although after picking up some callipers today, I realized the thing is 1"!! I think i'll need different bushings too. But where does one get aftermarket bushings for an unknown bar? April 28, 201410 yr comment_446766 Really, any Black oil based paint would be fine, but there is no fun in that - especially if you have POR around... I had mine powder coated with the rest of my suspension.. I would recommend soap and water for the flip flops ..... May 12, 201410 yr Author comment_447726 Well, I think i'm going to go with MOOG universal 1" sway bar mounts. I stripped, etched/primed and painted the bar today. I then test fitted the sway bar end links I had purchased for a 240z replacement part. The bolts themselves are the same length as what was on there, but the bushings are quite a bit thicker and I don't have enough thread to get the nuts on. Anyone see any harm in cutting the middle spacer (Between the bushing caps) and 1/4-1/2 Inch to get a few threads showing?
