I don't surf the porn sites, and rarely even click on the Boobs thread, but I consistently, like a few times a day, have a banner ad at the top of the classiczcars page advertising "1000 Single Asian Women".

Is there any way for Mike to block that specific ad? It must be tied to the site somehow since all of the other ads are about cars, or electronics, and I never see it on any other web site.

I have nothing against Asia, or Asian people, or Asian women, even thousands of them, but the ad makes it look like I'm looking for love, instead of Z conversation.

I'm using Google Chrome with Flash Player set to click to play, so many ads get blocked. But the 1000 Women somehow always get through.

Haven't looked back here for quite a while.

Sorry, but I seem to have missed what was inappropriate or offensive about the comment. Clarification?

Dennis

You seem pretty reasonable in general so maybe you just don't realize it. "Sowwy" is a stereotype of Japanese people having trouble speaking English as a second language. If you spoke to a Japanese person like this, would they be offended? That's a good litmus test.

On the other hand, maybe you were representing the picture as a very young girl learning how to talk. Now that's just creepy and seriously offensive. I'd rather believe the first case than the second.

One alternative could be using something like an ad-blocker such as "ad block plus", but that would cut revenue to maintain the site.  is there a way to donate to the website? Like a BitCoin donation key?

Please do not use ad blockers, or we will not generate revenue from the ads to pay our server hosting bills.  The ads are here for a reason, and that reason is to keep us online.  If you don't like the ads, I am going to add a new usergroup for memberships.  The usergroup will have all ads disabled.  A few more days of work, but, it should be online soon.  I did disable the dating site banners this evening.  Your ads should have a bit more class now.  :)

Does the site get paid when people click-through, or just for showing the ad?  Is anyone clicking through to the 1000 Asian Women site?  (Rhetorical!, I don't really want to know!).

The 1000 Single Asian Women ad is the reason we go to the ad-blockers.  Get rid of the bad ads and we won't have the reason to use the blockers.  Cause-effect.

Yep, I disabled all of the dating ads.

Zed Hed, I haven't checked this thread for a while, but did today and saw your response to my earlier question.

For clarification, "Sowwy" as used in someone's earlier post is NOT how a beginning Japanese English learner would pronounce "Sorry".  And that was the point of my comment.  Japanese English learners have difficulty with the /r/ and /l/ sounds, so "Sorry" would likely be pronounced as "Solly", not "Sowwy".

On the other hand, a native English speaker would develop the /r/ sound somewhere between the ages of two and a half and eight.  Articulation errors beyond that age frequently substitute the /w/ sound for the /r/ sound.  An adult example of that case would be newscaster Tom Brokaw.

Hope this sheds a little light on developmental speech articulation and your misconception of Asian English learners.  No apology needed or expected.   :)

Forgot to mention that advertising works the best (in our favor) if people actually follow-through.   This doesn't mean I am asking you to click on every ad like a madman, it just means that if you see something you may want to look at, click on it.  Payment varies but is anywhere from .01 to .10 per click.  It's not a ton of money but it has been enough to pay our server hosting bills, software updates, domain renewals, licenses, etc..  It really does help.

FYI, soon I will add the subscription account again.  Once we have this, it will disable the ads for members who are helping us stay afloat with a monthly subscription.

Man blackmailed after stripping naked on Skype for 'Filipina beauty'

Nicholas ChengThe Star/Asia News Network

KUALA LUMPUR - He had read about such scams in the papers; beautiful women coaxing lustful men to strip naked on online chats and then blackmailing them.

Yet, John Tan (not his real name) could not resist going au naturale when a seemingly gorgeous woman persuaded him to do it on Skype.

That supposedly Filipina beauty turned out to be an African man, who is now demanding RM3,000 (S$1,200) and threatening that he would leak Tan's nude video online.

"I knew there were cases like this and I suspected the girl might be fake. But when I saw how beautiful 'she' was ... I couldn't resist," said the 30-year-old designer, hiding his face behind large dark glasses at a press conference called by MCA public services and complaints department chief Datuk Seri Michael Chong here yesterday.

Claiming it was the first time he had stripped for another person on the Internet, Tan said he first chatted with the so-called Sabrina Leung, who added him on her Facebook page on Nov 6.

Yea, I recommend NOT doing this.  :)
