So it's my understanding that mid-80's 4x4 Yota calipers/pads are a bolt on replacement to the stock calipers.

My question is regarding fitment on 14'' wheels. I will be running SSR MKIII's in a 14x7, and would really like larger brakes, but obviously I'm a little concerned about wheel fitment on the larger calipers.

Coming from the truck world, I know very few people have fit 14'' wheels with Z32 calipers, so I'm wondering if the Z's are picky in that way as well.

I assume you are meaning Toyota Hilux-Surf calipers.

You will most likely have clearance issues with these calipers and 14''wheels.

Correct.

That's what I'm afraid of. Maybe someone will chime in on their experiences.. I don't like using spacers.

I have had the same clearance issues on my 240. Both with the stock steel 14'' wheels and also with 14''mags. I don't use wheel spacers. You will need to fit shims/washers on the caliper mounting, to centralise the caliper with the brake disc.

I was able to grind a minimum off the corners of the calipers to give clearance for the rims. This just removed a bit off the cooling fins. My mags still run very close to the calipers.

All the talk of having to fit a larger master cylinder. I dunno, but i found the stock master cylinder works just fine, and i had no noticable difference in pedal travel.
