Posted May 23, 201410 yr comment_448319 Where the tranny mount mounts to the passenger side tunnel- where the bolt goes up through the pyramid shaped boxed in area attached to the tunnel, the nut that the bolt attaches to, which is inside the boxed in area, is stripped. Any ideas how to fix it, without welding and alot of cutting. Since my interior is out, do you think i could drill or cut a hole from the interior of car on the tunnel where the boxed in area is? It wouldn't be hard to measure from under the car, to get a good idea where to cut or drill. After i get a hole in the tunnel from the interior of the car, i can put a new nut in so the bolt has something to attach to. Do you think that would work? Thanks alot, TimsZ Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/49284-transmission-mount-help-71z/ Share on other sites
May 23, 201410 yr comment_448331 Drill and tap to the next size up. It may be SAE that would be the next relative size up rather than a step up in metric to minimizing cutting out too much metal with the drill. Some one else here may have more insight on the anchoring metal it its ability to take the next metric size up. You might as well do both sides. Drill from below. May 23, 201410 yr comment_448348 Another option is to install a Heli-Coil insert. You will likely be able to use the original size screw this way. May 24, 201410 yr Author comment_448412 Thank you very much, but i did it my way. Sounds like a song. I couldn't tap the bolt. I opened it up from the interior tunnel in less than 5 minutes. I'll put a nut on the bolt, but i'll have to put epoxy or something to keep the bolt from turning so i can take bolt out if i have to. I can weld to patch together from interior. Alot easier.
