240260280z Posted May 26, 2014 Share #1 Posted May 26, 2014 (edited) How do they do it? A big press then grind to a finish? I never saw this type of plier taken apart. I always wondered how they fasten the two sides as there is no apparent bushing nor fastener....just very tight tolerance parent metal fittings and brushed metal grain... a puzzle to me? Mikes Z car Posted May 26, 2014 Share #2 Posted May 26, 2014 Aha! The plot thickens. I went and looked at some pliers here and the ones I have are made in three pieces. The post in the middle is a separate piece. I imagine then that it is an interference fit on one end or the other, likely on the smaller end if one is smaller? I want to see another thread on an equally intriguing idea, the meaning of life...
Captain Obvious Posted May 26, 2014 Share #3 Posted May 26, 2014 "The parts go into a press that applies both heat and pressure to secure the rivet firmly"Then they grind it flush. How It's Made Pliers - YouTubeI love that show...

Mikes Z car Posted May 26, 2014 Share #9 Posted May 26, 2014 (edited) It has been my observation that many men have a well developed sense of humor, better or much better than what I usually see in women and that isn't intended to be a sexist remark. Why is that? I have pondered this mystery of life for decades. Maybe, er, it is necessary to understand women to figure that out? In that case I will never figure it out. As an example on my observation about humor how many threads have you seen on the internet like this one where women trade amusing comments? I haven't seen one yet. Big sam Posted May 26, 2014 Share #10 Posted May 26, 2014 The riveting of pliers is one of the great mysteries of the universe, along with what was used to make the parts of the first lathe, and the chicken and the egg.
siteunseen Posted May 26, 2014 Share #11 Posted May 26, 2014 That's the #1 personality trait that I look for, a sense of humor, as I'm a goof-ball myself. I'm 45 and have never been married.
