Posted May 30, 201410 yr comment_448822 Can anyone confirm that the white/black wire is correctly soldered? It is attached to the side of the metal part while the other 3 are soldered through it and on to other wires that go in to the radio. There was evidence of tampering with the cap that goes over the wires so I just wanted to confirm if this looks correct. I haven't powered it up yet. May 31, 201410 yr comment_448860 Not the same model, but just for posterity's sake here is what my 1973 KM-1520ZC radio looks like, with the gray/black wire soldered straight to the case like your white/black Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/49335-speaker-wire-soldering-on-radio-tm-1081za/#findComment-448860 Share on other sites

June 2, 201410 yr Author comment_449001 Does anyone know what the black toggle switch above the tuner knob does? It's actually inside the unit and not accessible while the case is assembled. Turning the knob, pushing or pulling it while turning it etc does nothing to it. June 2, 201410 yr comment_449003 I wonder if it might be a local/distant switch for FM? If that is what it is it is puzzling that it can't be accessed with the cover on though. June 2, 201410 yr Author comment_449010 I had a closer look tonight and figured it out. When the dial is attached you press it in and the grooved part of the larger stem is engaged by the dial which in turn actuates the switch. As to what it does, I still have no idea. Need to read the manual.Incidentally, the volume side has a similar action but it's something other than a switch that's controlled when pressed in. Again, need to read the manual.
