FameThatPredates Posted May 31, 2014 Share #1 Posted May 31, 2014 (edited) I'm in need of some help,I've never owned a 240z before or any of the other models, quite honestly I'm pretty new to cars in general (anything that inst a classic VW). I have recently found a 1972 240z which I have all intentions in buying, it has some problems and needs some work. I've got the a few of the things it needs pined down (gas pump + carb rebuild) but I'm lost when it comes the the hoses, I want to get an idea of how much its gonna cost before I make the purchase. There are not many on a 240z.You can see them here:Datsun 240Z-260Z-280Z Parts ManualAs well as in the 1972 factory service manual:http://www.xenons30.com/files/FSM/1972%20240z%20FSM.zipYou can change all of the engine compartment and under dash hoses for under $100. (Cooling, fuel, overflow, washer fluid, evap)There are a few fuel lines hoses to/from the gas tank that will be under $5.There are also emission/vent hoses to the tank that could be expensive if you purchased from Nissan, however you can use alternate methods and do the job for $50.There is also a drain hose for an electric radio mast/antenna if your Z has one. You'll be amazed at what all these folks could tell you from looking at them. I just put a "gas pump" on my '72. It has the A/C compressor mounted on the passengers side firewall and made a simple 3 bolt swap out a major job, for me anyway. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Stanley Posted June 2, 2014 Share #7 Posted June 2, 2014 The short hose from the thermostat to the intake manifold heater tube takes a tight bend, so it might be better to buy the special hose (or get a 1/4" BSPT plug for the thermostat).The PCV hose is bigger on one end, so it's better to buy the special hose, it's not expensive.You'll have to hook up new heater hoses or plug the heater outlet at the rear of the head and plug the water hose outlets on the right side of the engine. I use Goodyear Hi-miler heater hose (rate for 360 F. IIRC.) for the side hose because it's so close to the engine it can crack at the clamps from the heat, at least mine did. Cheaper than silicone. The heater might leak, since the hoses aren't hooked up (or I need better glasses). Nissan still sells nice radiator hoses, that say "Nissan".I changed all my fuel hoses to USCG marine grade, fire-resistant and lined to resist ethanol.
