I got it! As per my post earlier this week I pretty much had a deal sewn up on this 1971 240z Series-1 #8011. I am happy to say the deal is done and the Z is safe and sound in its new home next to my 1973 Karmann Ghia. The trip up to Dallas and back was as smooth as can be expected. I left Friday after work, spent the night at my mom’s house in Plano, picked up the car in Dallas early Saturday morning, and was on the road with the Z by 8am. I rolled in to my house near Austin just a little after 11am. Once I got the truck and trailer returned, devoured a Sonic cheeseburger and proceeded to take a 5 hour nap. :0) Below are some pictures I took this evening. The car is pretty much everything I thought it would be. I have a small to-do list such as affixing a new Datsun script emblem on the hatch, installing a new rear hatch strut, and giving the interior a good cleaning. I may also bleed the brakes and clutch as they feel a little spongy but nothing to get worried about. Anyway, I am happy to be a classic Z owner again and grateful for the opportunity to own such a nice example of the marque. I look forward to chatting with all of you here on the boards and in-person at various events around central Texas.

WOW! That thing is clean under the hood.

We have a similar problem, musical chairs but with cars and garage space.

Yeah, I plan to leave the tail light surround as-is for now. Later down the road I will take it off and paint it the correct charcoal grey that it is supposed to be but that is months or possibly years away.

It doesn't look like anything is in need of immediate attention. Your "starting point" looks like what most of us wish our "finished" project looked like.

WOW!!! What a beautiful car. Someone did some outstanding work under the hood with all the re-plating, stock hose clamps, ...etc. Glad to see the updated profile pic as expected. Is your face aching from the big grin???

Thank you for all the compliments everyone! Yes, I am still smiling about getting it. The attention to detail is really what sold me on the car and justified the premium price for it. I know what is involved in getting a car to this level and the saving of months or in some cases years of work makes it worth it. I feel I have finally taken my own advice of being patient and buying the best car I can afford.

ditto on the price - not premium at all in my book.

the $$ and time to get a $7K example up to where yours is far exceeds any "premium"...
