Cam sprocket notches and "C" cam

Im in the midst of rebuilding my cylinder head. Im going to be using the "C" cam for my rebuild, I haven't been able to find anything online about this but in the Datsun rebuild book it says for stock cams use the first notch on the cam sprocket for timing. But a moderately aggressive cam you would use the second notch and so fourth. My question is...Would you use the first or second notch for the "C" cam? I know it came on early 260z's as a stock cam. But it is mildly aggressive since it's a Datsun Competition cam. What would be better for the build? I'm just slightly confused:stupid:

I don't think the C cam is a "Datsun Competition" cam, it's just a stock factory grind. The other holes, #2 and #3, are for using when the timing chain wears and cam timing gets retarded. Probably best to just run it as the factory intended, on the #1 hole. The notch and groove will tell you if you're using the right hole.

For a new timing chain merely changes the rpm range where the valves work best. Position 1 gives more higher end torque and position 3 gives more low end torque.

For a worn chain it can help get the valves to work back at their stock position.

I was basically going by what the Atlantic Z site said and what the book said for hotter cams...http://atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/cam/index.htm

I think I am going with hole 1.

Got it. I don't know why the book says for "hotter cams use this hole" Im going with hole 1.
