zhead240 Posted July 5, 2014 Author Share #9 Posted July 5, 2014 alright, the obvious, it's a 48 star flag from 1912 to 1959 when hawaii joined the union. it was the longest in service flag for 47 years until july 4th 2007 when the current 50 star flag took over that distinction. the dimensions are 5 feet by 9 1/2 feet which is called a coffin or burial flag. commercial flags are usually 5 by 8. my ceiling is 9 feet and the flag still drags on the floor. siteunseen Posted July 5, 2014 Share #10 Posted July 5, 2014 Alaska joined in January of '59 becoming #49, then Howareya in August, the 50th state. Thanks for the flag facts, I've never seen a burial flag unfurled like that.
