new owner of a 260 2+2

Hey all im a young bloke (16) and just got myself a 76 260Z 2+2 that me and my old man are doing up togethor (we both love the 240's + 260's) mainly i want to ask if anyone has the statastics on this car eg horsepower, top speeds its auto though :( i was lokking for a manual but ill get over it and also would like to know where all of you other 260z fans are from im in south australia and would like to know if any other SA fellas could tell me where to get parts or any 260 clubs i could join???

I also look for a 260z 2+2, and i have some books to tell you what you search.

the performance depend of states where the car was sold (in América for exemple) the engine had 162 SAE bhp at 5600rpm and 152 lbft but only 139 hp and 137 lbft in California because of the emission restriction but i didn't now what is done in Australia.

For the perf 0-60mph 10s for the 2-str (man)

12.2 for the 2+2 (auto)

127 mph top speed.

But in some test someone have done 8.2 to the 0-60mph

I suppose it depends of the engine équipemment different according to the state or the country and also with the options

Hey mate welcome to the club,

I live on the Gold Coast in Queensland but there are others here from SA as well. Your car looks pretty good, but you might find that with it being a 2+2 and Auto not as highly regarded as the 240Z and 2 seater 260Z manuals... but it's a matter of taste really - and PRICE TOO! I'm sure you realise that the 2+2s are worth much less than the 2 seaters, which make them a bargain buy IMO. Some people regard them as ugly but I just like to call them different :)

The guys here are great and will be able to help you with any problem you might encounter that you and your dad can't solve.

G'day noob, good to see that you picked THE right car to own and drive!! Alfadog would be right...ppl's opinion of a 260 2+2 auto is fairly low, what with the higher profile of manuals and then the 2 seater 260's and 240's. But don't worry, most of them just look down on other that didn't pay as much for their car as you did!! I actually own a 260 2+2 76', though it is a 5spd...I can't handle autos, they just wizz me off...but that me...I have driven an auto...very cruisy and basically unbreakable...and hey! Look on the very bright side, if you ever need to give a couple of midgets a lift, you have the space (plus the 2+2 is a more 'drifty' car, what with the longer wheelbase!!)...but anyway, all Z's are to be appreciated as the pure blood original 6cyl Jap sports, just look at the competition at the time of their original release (re: NOTHING!), and its then you realise that whether you're driving an original 240 Fairlady (refer to Alan for that!! Bloody nice car!!!!)....or a 300zx (or 350 now i 'spose), or anything in between (that where most come in) be assured that were here to help, appreciate and sometimes slap you should you stray from the righteous path that is the Z cars domain!!

Anyway, enough bollocks, good luck on the restoration and get back to us soon!

Oh! BTW...the 260z engine in aussie spec has about 101kW (modern power figure), and yes, in manual form the 2+2 does a 9-10sec 0-100, in auto that blow out to 12secs. So there! Hope that helps!

Just looking at an article here that rogerZ was kind enough to lend me, and it rates the 2+2 auto as good, if not better than the GT falcon in all but the point and squirt parts. :) PS, need any bits, I've got a near complete one I'm wrecking, and If it has those flat top carbs, boy do I have a deal for you! :)

Good to see I'm not the only one on here from Adelaide building a decent 2 + 2 :classic: I think you'll find general disdain, but when it comes to driving IMHO the 2+2 feels much firmer on the road.

Pity you don't want another auto gear box, I've got one in the shed that no one wants!

why oh why does everyone pick on these carbs?

I know there not the best but if you hadn't been serviced for 25 years you'd be a little on the slow side as well.

Pick a carb kit, spend a bit of time stripping them down and re-building them and you will be pleasently surprised by the result.

Incidentaly, flat tops maintain the originality of the wee little beastie, I don't want to hear another bad word about them!

It sounds great in theory but have you ever tried to find a rebuild kit for those carbs?

The cheapest I could find was a place in Canberra with two left in stock (no one in Adelaide had them) and they wanted $150ea, plus postage. I balked at the price and went and bought an entire 260Z with the roundtops for $500 and haven't looked back:stupid:

On the upside I have been told that if tuned properly they are a great carb. Unfortunatly no one knows how to anymore and it can be an expensive process too (I was quoted $300 to tune the flat tops and $50 to tune round tops!)

Yep, picked up a couple from K-Mart Auto when it still was K-mart auto a couple of years back. About $40 ea then.

Mind you there not Datsun/Nissan Original but they come with all bits and detailed intructions.

IMO, the only difference between flat top/round is that you can't alter the mixture on the flats without altering the float level.

I've got round on the 240 and flats in the 260 and have better economy in the 260? Go figure???????
