Before I call Isky please advise

I have a 9/'76 N47 cylinder head with a "B" internal oil cam with spray bar. I would like to know, before I call, if my thinking is correct. I want the Stage III grind on my cam using my rockers and lash pads as well as the cam towers to be installed on an E31 head. Is this the way to do it or am I wrong? Will I send them my rockers or should I get their's? lash pads?

Thanks to anybody that can steer me the right way,

Cliff

Send your rockers to Delta Cams to be reconditioned like new......$4.00 each. Not sure where to buy lash pads, but you'll need to geometry the cam (center the wipe patterns). Isky sells .175 lash pads which should get you centered, but I find they can vary between .160 and .180's depending on the the head shop getting valve stem height even. Remember.....if you're using the E31 head with the Stage III Isky cam, you'll need the short valve seals mentioned earlier. Isky will take about 2 weeks to get the cam back to you. Finally, you will need to get a set of Isky valve springs to handle the .490 lift cam.

Cliff, funny that you posted this just now as I was about to ask the same question.

I'm looking at an Isky stage III for my N42 head.

I have read many times from guys on this forum that they regretted buying a stage I or II after installing a stage III. I heard that the idle with a stage III is quite good and useable in a day to day situation.

I'll be watching the replys.

This is the exact cam that I use on my 3.0. The idle is slightly rough but not objectionable. I have an E-88 head with welded combustion chambers, large valves and ported by Bowers Racing. Bottom end is all Robello parts. My SU carbs were also modified by Robello. This is a very fun engine to drive on the street or track.

Cliff.....Just a clarification. You didn't mean you were going to install the cam towers from the N47 onto the E31 did you? It sounded like that what you said in the first post. You definitely would want to use the cam towers from the E31 on the E31, not from the N47. Just checking. Guy

Actually I was! Not now though, thanks. I hope the E31 towers have the oil passages for the cam as well as the spray bar. I'll look when I get home.

Thanks again.

That chart I posted in #1 says "Grind customers cam B". My internal oiler cam is a B stamped one, on the N47, it also has a spray bar. The E31 cam is stamped "A" without oil holes, just the spray bar. I would rather have both, oiler cam and spray bar with the automatic turbo's oil pump, flood the cam.

Is there a L motor specialist at Isky that you deal with? I hate to keep bothering you with my questions and my local machinist is not very familiar with our cars. He said he could access all the details with a computer program he has. I thought about Eddie Radatz in Kennesaw, GA. I know Rebello is the most recommended but I'd like to keep it on the east side of the Mississippi. Who do you use?

Thank you for all your insight, it's priceless...literally. :)

A is 4 cylinder, B is 6 cylinder......they grind solid and hollow cams the same. I've never seen an N47 cam on a spray bar head. Does it have holes drilled in the lobes for internal oiling? It strange to me that they would have a spray bar and internally oiled cam, but have never worked on the early N47 head. Not sure who to recommend, but if you've never done one before, it might pay to ship it off. Z Doctor builds all of my heads, but he has slowed his ops to a minimum. I'm sure Dave Rebello will build you a nice head. My guess with cam, springs valves etc., you're looking at $2,000.00, but only a guess.
