The original AC units for the series 1 cars, were they installed by the factory or the dealers?

Mine was an ARA unit installed by the dealer. Big, honkin' York compressor mounted on a frame that surrounded the fuel pump. Altho the A/C is no longer installed, I've kept the console switch and the evaporator unit that mounted on the heater box in case I decide to put A/C back in the car.

All of the a/c units were dealer installed. The factory supported unit was made by Frigiking but ARA made one also that many people had installed.

I also had York compressor. Did you just cut and plug the dryer and compressor hose. The hoses are a bear to get off.

There was a factory-installed unit available for JDM (and other non-US countries? Anyone know?) which was made by Hitachi which can be retrofitted to US cars, although I've personally never seen it done.

No factory air existed prior to the 260Z as far as I know.

Factory air was available in the 1969-73 RHD Z-L models as an option, but i've only ever seen 2 installations, so it must not have been a very common option. I'd imagine it'd be straightforward to fit it to an export 240Z, if you could find the parts.
