As we dropped a bit of capacity you would think we would get less power but got roughly the same as before 250 rwhp, but lots more torque.  But it is running richer so will sort that out after we have given it a proper run in at a track day and then see what happens.

Otherwise is running fine, temps steady and no knock or noise, rock solid fuel pressure.

Admit I did hope for more power straight off the bat, but will see what develops. Every run made a few HP more so next is a good run in and then some tuning.

I was lucky enough to meet some guys over here at the phillip island historics last month who made the trip from NZ who were big fans of yours!

Thanks Mastadd240k, they mention they had run into some 240k owners.

Now lockdown was over managed to get it to the track to run in the engine.  What better day than the Prowear 2020 GTR Festival.

Back to Coastline Automotive for an oil change then back to the dyno for another check, then we can decide whether to spend some more time tuning.

Dyno charts from Feb 20 showing new engine vs old engine.  That old engine really ran well for its age.  It did have slightly bigger capacity and extensive head work.  Surprised the new one was not much different.

The old engine lines on the chart is very hard to see.

Seems 240K's they are just everywhere .  Some photos of our recent classic racing event.  Thanks to Clark C and Tony F for turning up and bringing me a back seat squab.  That's Clark's immaculate grey 240K.  Everyone was blown away by how tidy it was.

Update the signwriting to the new logo and new engine fitted and ready for a proper event.  A bit of tuning and we got an extra 10hp out of it.  260hp at the wheels.

NICE!!

Broke the exhaust tip on the ripple strip at the race meeting, but was always intending to get a new stainless exhaust built for the new engine. 

So do this done last week. No time available on the dyno till after the next meeting, next weekend. But here are some pics.

Marcus (kiwi autosport) added a little kink at the beginning as the extractors where not quite equal length. I did not want to pull the extractors off and modify them. So that seemed the best compromise. Time will tell. But sounds a lot more smoother and a little quieter, which is probably a good think as we have a decibel limit at most racetracks.

 

Latest update to the car is a new rear seat.

In our classic racing the goal is to have the car look as close to how it came out in the factory as possible.  Though rear seats are removed to fit roll cages, a lot of the racers are adding fake rear pads to make it look nicer.  I did not like the look of the fake pads so thanks to Clarke (fellow 240k owner) he swapped me an original rear seat backrest.

But when we opened it up to modify it to fit it the foam was a bit too crusty and the frame was a bit rusty at the edges.

Bit mouldy and yuck and the vinyl was not really strong enough.

 

Bit rusty at the edges, in fact some had rusted away and was missing.

So Dale (Mechanic - Coastline Automotive) went to work on modifying it to remove the rust, reinforce it and make it fit around the roll cage.

To  fit it to car required the rear window to be removed (we got in a windscreen specialist to do this) which allowed Dale the opportunity to tidy up the headlining, fix some of the rear interior panels and remount the rear arm rest that was only held on by one screw.

Also the rear windscreen had overspray on it so it got a good clean.  Skilled job to remove it and clean it and then later refit it without breaking it.  I do have a spare front windscreen (thanks Don) but not a rear screen. 

So I was insistent that it did not get broken

Also wanted to keep the original AA sticker in the corner.

Modifying the wire frame took a bit of work

The off to the powder coaters so it would last 

Then off to the upholsters for recovering.  We tried a new guy this time Luxxis Upholstery in Tauriko, Tauranga - he did a nice job - the only mistake was he did it in leather not vinyl.  But it still looked alright and I did not have the heart to make to him do it again to get it right.

We also put in some covering on the back parcel tray to finish it off

Damn - just realized I forgot to post update on the new fuel system - so might need to do that next.

Really finishes off the rear of the car, looks like a brilliant job on the seat too!
