The temperature in my 240z is not Reading correct and i was thinking now that the car has 2 days of not been cranked to remove the temperature sending unit on my car, clean it with a brush and contact cleaner and reinstall it back again. Is there anything i should be aware? i.e. using a dialectric grease or pipe tape? any precautions i should take when removing and installing it back? I bought a new one on ebay and the mechanic says it does not fit. I thought these temp sending units were standard for 1970-1983 Zs?

Please advise.

What doesn't fit - the temp sender or the retaining nut?
