Help! Transmission Mount - Bolt question

I'm starting to feel rather helpless. Finding info on parts is difficult. Just got my engine issues figured out only to find more missing parts ... (I will never buy a partially restored car again)!

Can someone tell me the size of the bolts used to mount the manual transmission to the body in an '77 coupe? There are two rather long bolts that hold a cross-member to the body that then bolts to the tranny/rubber mount and of course mine are missing. No clue where the original bolts went and I'm currently holding it in place with a jack.

I've searched the usual places for part numbers etc and came up with 11322-N3000 used in the '78 zx but I'm not sure that's the same hex-bolt used on the '77 z. Plus I can't find a place that gives me the spec's for those bolts so I can run down to my local Fastenal to get an equivalent.

Anyone with some insight for me?

Thanks for the read!

Nathan

'77 Coupe manual - in bits and pieces but coming along.

'76 Coupe automatic - rusted and being stripped

I can tell you the bolts are 12mm x 1.25 threads. Length you can get by measuring the distance between the outside of the on-car flanges and adding an 1" or so. Use the strongest (highest grade) bolts you can get like grade 8 (SAE) or 10-9 (JIS). The stock bolts use a self locking nut.

Just to be clear, the ZX line started in 79. Did you mean 78Z or 79ZX?

The bolt clamps down on the metal sleeve of the mount bushing between the mounting ears, creating essentially a solid metal structure. It's not a precision part, so even an SAE or other non-metric thread would work. And 77 would be the same as 78. Your local Nissan dealer might be able to find it in their parts catalog if you want to stay original.

Oh sure, I just passed through Cashmere last week on the way back from ZCON. Why didn't you tell me you need Trans mount bolts? I could have brought you some nice OEM ones....

Best of all I finally found out about "Aplets and Cotlets". Totally mystery to me up to that point. Now I'm completely hooked. I'll mail you two bolts/nuts in exchange for a "care package" from that store! K?

(I can just hear the frantic googling "ap and cot is a what now?" )

I feel your pain. My 260 project had 2 previous owners. Neither owner got it on the road, although they did a lot to it, all of the previous improvements I've found so far have been done half-assed. By far the most aggravating is chasing fasteners. It takes so much time. Countless hours & miles to find minor items. Too bad someone doesn't offer a complete fastener kit for these cars. No matter the price it would be worth it.

Aplets and Cotlets and Crunch Pak ... Cashmere's claim to fame. Applets and Cottlets (now Graplettes etc) are a sugary fruit confection that is incredibly addicting. If you haven't tried them, you should. Crunch Pak supplies all of the sliced apples packs that you find at Costco, McDonalds, and Disneyland. Not bad for a town of less than 4,000.

I would happily exchange bolts for candy! PM me and we'll work out the details!

Mark ... I agree. I am missing so many bolt/fasters/clips and I have a donor car to pull from ... they both seem to be missing the same parts or (in the case of transmission bolts) automatic parts are different from manual.

Good news is the transmission bolts are the last mechanical parts missing. Now I'm on to reassembling the body ... the only thing intact was the interior.

About 6 years ago I offered a complete undercar fastener kit (yellow zinc-chromate, all new parts) sourced from Wurth. Class 8.8 and 10.9 fasteners as appropriate for the application. No takers. I was told it was too expensive by everyone interested who felt $250 was the most anyone should charge for nuts and bolts.

Ah yes, it has been proven many times that what "should" be done and what "can" be done are separated by cheap Datsun people. Don't make me repeat the copper wire invention story yet again...

Somewhere on this forum is a thread that contains a spreadsheet of all the suspension and drive line bolt specs that I may have contributed to. I should likely update it with the trans bolt sizes too. Then anyone is welcome to go shopping and see just what it takes to buy all those bolts... Now where is that spread sheet again..... Ah yes, here.
