Posted September 14, 201410 yr comment_455430 I dropped my 3 speed automatic transmission from my 73 240z, replaced the flexplate and put it all back together. Now there are two fluid lines the feed into the transmission, and these lines connect to the transmission via a bizare bolt with a hole drilled in them. It appears that all I would need to do is bolt the bolt back into the transmission, although I do not understand how fluid runs through the system. So my question is, when reconnecting the transmission to the rest of the fairlady, do I just screw these in like any other bolt, or must something special be done. Thank you for reading. September 14, 201410 yr comment_455431 Are you referring to the banjo fitting bolts on the transmission cooler lines? Here is a link to a parts list and diagram:Datsun 240Z/260Z/280Z Transmission Case & Fitting (Automatic-3N71B) (From Apr.-'71)Also possibly refer to the FSM, here's a link for that as well in case you don't have one:XenonS30I'm not sure if you will find a torque spec in the FSM, make sure the washer like gaskets are in good condition as well.HTH Mike Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/50060-bolts-and-holes/#findComment-455431 Share on other sites
September 14, 201410 yr comment_455432 Sounds like a banjo bolt. There should be a ring-shaped fitting on the end of the line. Fluid flows through the bolt, out of the hole, through the ring and in to the line. Study the fitting at the end of the line and it should make sense. Both sides of the ring fitting seal, one side on the bolt head and the other side on the transmission, or wherever the fluid is. September 14, 201410 yr Author comment_455433 Thank you Mike and Zed, that is exactly what I am refering to. It appears to all be fine. The explanation makes a lot of sense. Thank you both for your time.
