sdyck Posted September 15, 2014 Share #1 Posted September 15, 2014 (edited) Wix 51521 came up as one of the filters for the 240z when I ordered a bunch of stuff from rock auto. I think it was on sale so I ordered 2. I believe this is the same filter as the Napa 1521, I was surprised at how short it was vs what I was replacing ( see picture), I'll never understand why there are so many different Olaf filters? In the future I'll get the Wix 51515, but in the meantime, has any one had problems with the shorter filters? Since they are listed for the 240z I can't see a problem, other than longevity. Thanks! Hardway Posted September 15, 2014 Share #2 Posted September 15, 2014 I currently have a 51521 on my '71 240z and have not had any problems. The overall quality of the filter vs. the old lube shop grade Penzoil filter is night and day. I don't think you have anything to worry about. Zed Head Posted September 15, 2014 Share #3 Posted September 15, 2014 After seeing some pictures of filter insides, there is a lot of room to pack the same filter media are in to a smaller volume. You'd have to cut one open and look though, to know if that's what WIX did. Seems like a good idea if they did it right.
JR Ohio Posted September 15, 2014 Share #4 Posted September 15, 2014 I only use the K&N. It is suppose to have better parts in it from what I have read.K&N HP3001You can get them at most good parts places like Advance and they are not that much more than the others. Walter Moore Posted September 16, 2014 Share #5 Posted September 16, 2014 The shorter filter is actually for the later cars. I think it is required on the S130 to clear some accessory. I have used the short filter with no issues.
metalmonkey47 Posted September 17, 2014 Share #6 Posted September 17, 2014 (edited) Just FYI, you guys should be using a Napa Gold (wix) 1515. Not sure if Wix and Napa PN's are the same (even though they're the same manufacturer) it's a larger capacity filter like pictured on the left.
