Ok..I just purchased my first project car and it is a 73 240Z. Have had engine running via gas can thru fuel pump. Will be dropping the tank this weekend to check fuel line and tank for clogs. Was told car was sitting up for approx. 2 months. Any other suggestions for items to be checked while I have the tank off? Also, will probably be looking into tank and line replacement. Any ideas on where to find such items? I'm not having much luck on finding them anywhere!!!

Use the forum search for vent lines and you should find numerous posts on the subject...

MSA has filler hoses and vent lines, pricey as they are factory pieces, or you can make your own vent lines.

:classic: there is a co. that sells a kit to repair fueltanks, POR-15 there are several of us that have used the products offered by them and I assure you they are first rate. the fuel lines may only need to be blown out and new filters installed. If you are going to run carbs and want an electrical pump a great replacement from the bone yard is one from a early carbed that part is a must . RX-7 they are quiet and pump the correct amt. of volume and pressure. MUST be from a NON fuelinjected engine. Good luck Gary

Got tank off and blew out fuel lines. Found about 1/4" of rust in tank. Float sensor is totally rusted. Almost falling apart. I have ordered the POR-15, but am having trouble finding the float assembly. Any ideas on where such an item can be found?

Motorpsort Auto has sending units in their catalog for just under 40 bucks... Plus you can get the O-ring and most anything else you will need from them.

I went through what you are experiencing. I did not need new fuel lines but the tank was a mess. Did not try to clean it myself. Sent it out to a radiator shop. They will cut a hole in it and really clean it out and line the inside surfaces. Expensive but totally satisfactory. Got the float assy and O ring from MSA. Getting the tank cleaned solved a lot of problems for me. Good luck.

Where will you be using the POR-15 at? On the outside of the fuel tank? On the inside of the fuel tank? On the under chassis above the fuel tank?

Thanks!! I am still waiting on my Motorsport Auto catelogue. Will call 800 number tomorrow to get the sending unit on order.

TexasZ, outside of tank and underside of body looked great. Spent $50 on total tank repair kit...am assuming that it is for internal only. Will probably coat outside of tank as well, just to be on safe side, so I don't have to take it off again later on down the road.

Underside of body looked good on the whole...had a few spider webs and egg sacs and a dirt dobbers nest but no "killer" rust spots to be seen. Thanks for all the info and help!! Will keep you posted on progress of restoration.

The kit is for coating the inside , regular por for the outside . This Co. has a whole catalog of POR products . It is VARY important to follow instructions other wise it may not stick like you want. The prep is important. But the result is vary good. Gary:classic:

Has anyone tried to repair a small crack where the fuel supply 5/16 tube comes out of the tank? If so how did you go about it. I just got done replacing all of the vent lines and fuel lines up to the metal fuel lines and after I got done, I went and filled up the tank with only 12 gallons of gas... and found the leak. I might have put about 4 gallons of gas in to get me to the gas station so hopefully it is only a leak now:( Any help you all could give would be appreciated. btw, the tank looked real good inside
