I was thinking you said "Rat Lodge" and were going to pay me to send up some Alabama Rats?

I'll bet the guys that own those interceptors hate the association their cars have with the Mad Max franchise, badass car though. Well, Jody still has the car, going into the second week now, he's not happy with a section of the roof so is respraying the whole roof, says it's going to be a few more days until I get it back. I've cleaned up the shop, put another coat of paint on the floor, overhauled the drill press, done maintenance on all the vehicles... I'm going to be oiling the kitchen cupboard hinges soon if I don't find something to fix. I'm going to have to get busy the minute I get it back putting on the rest of the trim, bumpers, badging, to get it ready for Zfest on the 23rd. Captain Obvious Posted July 12, 2017 Share #508 Posted July 12, 2017 Haha! I don't know if the other owners with those kinds of cars like the association or not. I guess it would depend on the association. On a related note, I went to a show a couple weeks ago and there were maybe thirty DeLoreans there. And almost all had some sort of reference to the Back To The Future movies. Looking very hard, I think I found three of the thirty on which I could find no reference to the movies. Thx again for the help with the brazing. After I dressed down the two ports, the manifold went back in the blast cabinet to clean it up again, after which ti got a coat of VHT primer. Needs to cure for a week before I can do the finish coat. I was tempted by your idea of sawing off the nut heads and tapping the holes to take some nice, shiny brass plugs... but I got over it. No I haven't, I have a complete set of oxy/acet welding tips that I safely put away...somewhere in the shop, very well hidden. Had to use a cutting torch tip to braze John's exhaust manifold, It can be done.

grannyknot Posted July 22, 2017 Author Share #512 Posted July 22, 2017 Okay, here is what I'm taking to Zfest, spent the past couple of days compound buffing wet sanding scratches out of it and installing the bumpers. There is still a few things to do but there will only be a few guys there at the show that will notice.

Captain Obvious Posted July 23, 2017 Share #514 Posted July 23, 2017 Fantastic! I'm so glad I got a chance to see the original carcass before the work began. Gives me a greater sense of the amount of work you went through. Now all I have to do is see it now that it's done! So one question though... What are you going to do now? Your wife probably doesn't want you in the house that much. Has she started suggesting other projects or hobbies for you?
siteunseen Posted July 23, 2017 Share #515 Posted July 23, 2017 If he's a landscaper he'll have all he wants to do now that the Z is done. Hard to find guys that have his skill and attention to detail in that business, around here anyhow. I've been using .105" red round line for 10 years but just bought a 3lb spool of .095" orange round. I noticed it a lot in your pictures so that was good enough to make that decision for me. 155 more feet at just 3mm smaller.

Well you know I have a bad habit of putting For Sale signs on projects once they are finished because after all, they are done, nothing else to fiddle with. I'm not done with it yet but I know sooner or later some other project will grab my eye. Actually there is a young guy in the next town over who has started restoration on a 72 240z, so far I go over every Sunday and give him a hand with the fun stuff and he spends the next week dismantling and scraping and getting dirty, it's working out very well, kinda like being a Grandparent. Zfest was down on attendance today as rain was forecast but there was a total of 112 Z cars and about 22-24 of those were S30's
