Posted October 24, 201410 yr comment_457612 280z engine in a 240zna lost the clutch yesterday so ...I have a l24 flywheel in the garage can I have it surfaced and ready to go (in other words are the l24 and l28 flywheels the same )Is it worth it to buy a lighten fly wheel on a NA car? I was think of saving $ and put it in my turbo car thought it would have a greater effect. October 24, 201410 yr comment_457627 225mm and 240mm is all I've ever seen. 240mm is for the 2+2, 225mm for a coupe. Some put the 240mm in coupes, more grip surface.Sorry I can't say for sure. October 24, 201410 yr Author comment_457630 Thanks I think they are all the same so the next ? Can I put the 240 clutch fit on the coupe. Thanks Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/50293-another-clutch/#findComment-457630 Share on other sites
October 24, 201410 yr comment_457636 You didn't give enough detail to give a good answer. Can't tell if the coupe is the L28, or the turbo, or if you have two cars, or just one car and two engines...etc.The flywheels will all bolt up, but the pressure plate, clutch disc, and throwout bearing collar all need to match in order to work properly. October 24, 201410 yr Author comment_457642 I am sorry just had a train of thought. Will the 2+2 clutch fit on any flywheel ? . I have 280zx trans so I will use that collar with a clutch kit . I will get my spare flywheel surfaced . Thanks DC Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/50293-another-clutch/#findComment-457642 Share on other sites
October 24, 201410 yr comment_457643 All L24/L26/L28 flywheels bolt to the crank, but not all clutches bolt to all flywheels. 225mm clutches use 6 mount bolts, 240mm use 9 bolts, in a different pattern. Sorry, the clutch pack has to match which ever flywheel you decide to use.Only the Fidenza aluminum flywheel is drilled for both diameter clutches. October 24, 201410 yr comment_457645 I have 280zx trans so I will use that collar with a clutch kit . I will get my spare flywheel surfaced . Thanks DCThe collar does not match the transmission. It must match the pressure plate (aka clutch cover). This stuff is all over the internet, numerous threads about major problems when parts get mismatched. You might browse around a little before you put things together.
