October 29, 201410 yr Author comment_457922 I did a few searches and found :speedometer bounce" could be the cable or the gear. I think its the cable. I had cleaned it out and lubed it with cable lube when I was putting it back together. Cable lube is very thin. The car sat for 25 or so years before I put it back on the road. The bounce post said to use heavy gear oil. I'll give it a try and report back. October 29, 201410 yr comment_457924 I had the same problem. I just took the cable out of the speedo and then put it carefully back in again and it no longer bounce. I have taken my speedo out many times and it seems like you sometimes can get the cable in a little bit wrong and then it bounces around. November 27, 201410 yr comment_459370 I cured my speedo bounce by replacing the speedo cable. The inner cable was slightly kinked and the outer jacket was worn through. Documented here: 240z-rebuild/speedometer-cable-replace/ Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/50332-speedometer-jumping/#findComment-459370 Share on other sites
