Well, if you are reading this, you're now using our new website design!  Welcome to the new look of The Classic Zcar Club.  I just wanted to take a moment and let all of you know this latest project has been an extreme labor of love.  After testing this over the last several months, I've been able to migrate all of our data within a period of just a few days.  While there is still more work to be done, the website is now ready for you guys to jump back in with both feet.

All of our data has been migrated.  If you are looking for something that was in our old site, please give me another few days to bring it online.  All of the data is here, but, most of it has been disabled for viewing until I have a chance to go through and formalize the permissions.

The old site is still online, you can see it at this URL:  http://legacy.classiczcars.com

In the next few days I'll be working to bring you all of the things you have been used to seeing on our site.  Feel free to reply to this message with your questions or concerns.  Thanks again for your patience and enjoy the site!

Mike

Just changed the quote colors to match our old site.  Not sure if there's a good reason to enlarge it because the quote would overwhelm the response.  I did remove the italic if you think that would help.  Why do you want everything larger?  Do you need glasses?   :P  j/k

I also just spoke to someone and they told me that any browser supports the CTRL-+ option to enable zoom.  COMMAND-+ on the Mac.

Just trying make the site nice to view, and easy to use.  CTRL+ is work.

I like the new color and font much better.  If you made the font sizes all the same, it would be almost perfect.  Logically, if the quote font size was good enough, you should be shrinking the response font size because it's too big.  (Please don't do that).

Sometimes I comment on things that may not seem like a big deal, but the comments offer an opening for others to add to.  For example, if members like the blue background and the small italics, they can chime in now and ask to go back.  Font fight!

I can never find the archives like I used to.  When I google a phrase it doesn't pull up classiczcars.com stuff like it used to.  It's all zcars.com and hybridz.org.  I'll start using the forums search function and see if I can find the old stuff.

And a lot of pictures in post are longer there, white box with the green thing in the middle comes up now.

Hey siteunseen can you send me a sample Google search that does this?  I am concerned because we lost a lot of our Google presence after we made the switch over.  This is killing our income from banner ads and I need that money to keep the site online.  So, nonetheless I have to fix this as soon as possible.

I'm having trouble using the "link" feature to add a URL to a post. When I use this feature a dialog box opens to paste in the link but then I cannot accept/close (or even cancel) to get out of the dialog box.  Anyone else having this problem, I'm using IE 11 on Win 7.

Mike

The problem I am having is with using the link feature, the chain link icon to add a URL to a post. Here are a couple of screen captures. When I get to this point the "OK or Cancel" buttons won't close the dialog box and I have to use the task manager to close the session of IE to close. The second image shows what happens if I use the "x" in the upper right of the Link dialog box, but this dialog box won't cancel either.

I just went through the chain icon in the "More reply options" page to put the above link in.  No problems, I clicked "OK" and I'm back here.

But I can cut and paste and get the same effect - http://www.classiczcars.com/topic/50352-new-site-upgrade/page-4#entry458452

I'm using Chrome with Win 7.

I'm already using IE 11 on Win 7

CanTechZ,

I get the same thing.

This is another incompatibility issue with IE 11. Just like the paste flaw. Only way I've found around it is to use a different browser like Chrome.

Out of curiosity, are you on HybridZ? Because I've been dealing with both these issues on Hybrid for a while now and because of that I have to use Chrome when I'm over there. Everywhere else (until now) I've been able to stick with IE, but I've been using Chrome there for a while. I'm assuming the underlying software for both sites is the same mfgr now.

Captain,

I'm not on HybridZ but I am having the same paste issues as you.

Edit:  Also how does reply with quote work, I used the reply with quote button but the quote box doesn't show up?

Just checking, with Chrome and Windows 7.  I used the link icon, then pasted the same link.  Also got here by clicking the Quote button, which basically just puts the quoted text in the Reply box at the bottom of the page.  I like that it keeps the page in the same order from top to bottom.  Keeps the train of thought undisturbed.

I gave up on IE anything a couple of years ago.  Microsoft dropped the ball and is too far behind now to ever pick it back up.  The software developers don't care about IE anymore, Chrome and Firefox have the market.

Thanks Zed Head and Captain Obvious,

I may have to consider changing to Chrome, can you import your IE favorites list into chrome?

Hey guys, wanted to let you know I fixed the IE problems tonight.  Can you try again to see if it works for you?  I'm using IE for Windows 8.1 to type this email now.  I've used the quote feature above, and here's a pasted URL for your browsing pleasure.  :)

Enjoy!

"Hey guys, wanted to let you know I fixed the IE problems tonight"

I copied the above and hit paste. It asked me if I wanted to allow access to my clipboard and I clicked "allow".

It worked. So thanks!!!

However... Hybrid Z used to work like that too and then one day it stopped working altogether. No idea what happened, but the point is lets hope it's not a temporary fix! Thanks again for all your hard work!

I don't know much about HybridZ but can send an email to the admin.  The code is actually in the theme and can be changed in less than a minute.  Only problem is finding the code and understanding how to fix it. If this happens again to our site, I'll know how to fix it again easily.

Now on to the other issues.  :)

Mike, I noticed that when I use the mobile version of the forum on my iPhone 4 all ads are gone by default. Is this happening with others? I don't miss the adds but I would gladly allow them if it helps with income for the site.

Also thanks for fixing the IE issues.

Cheers

Mike

I don't get over there much as I like it better here. For all I know they've got it covered by now too. In any event, thanks for all your hard work and if something goes wrong again, I'm sure you'll hear about it!

Unrelated tidbit: Here's my MO... Navigate to classicZ and hit the "View New Content" button in the upper right. Then I open a bunch of threads that look interesting and if I find something that I want to respond to, I log in and respond. I don't always log in. I only do that if I'm going to respond to something. If I'm just browsing, I don't log in.

Prior to today, this thread (the New Site Upgrade thread) was included in the list of new content (as long as it had been bumped recently enough). But today, this thread didn't show up at all even though it had been bumped this afternoon. It showed up after I logged in to respond to a different thread, but when I wasn't logged in, it was non-existent.

I know the sub-forum it's in is hidden unless you're logged in, but the thread itself was (used to be) visible if you searched for new content. Until today that is. Now I couldn't see it at all until I logged in.

So I don't know if that's something that "broke" or got "fixed".   :) Is that one of the "other issues"?

In addition to the birthday issue, I also made additional progress tonight:

  • Changed all quotes to black font (was grey)
  • Clicking "View New Content" will always show forum content by default
  • Added quick navigation menu (top right next to new content shortcut)
  • Added red-underline to text link hover action
  • Decreased width of left menu to allow for smaller screens
