Well, if you are reading this, you're now using our new website design!  Welcome to the new look of The Classic Zcar Club.  I just wanted to take a moment and let all of you know this latest project has been an extreme labor of love.  After testing this over the last several months, I've been able to migrate all of our data within a period of just a few days.  While there is still more work to be done, the website is now ready for you guys to jump back in with both feet.

All of our data has been migrated.  If you are looking for something that was in our old site, please give me another few days to bring it online.  All of the data is here, but, most of it has been disabled for viewing until I have a chance to go through and formalize the permissions.

The old site is still online, you can see it at this URL:  http://legacy.classiczcars.com

In the next few days I'll be working to bring you all of the things you have been used to seeing on our site.  Feel free to reply to this message with your questions or concerns.  Thanks again for your patience and enjoy the site!

Mike

Hi all,

How are things now that you've had time to settle in and use the site for a few weeks?  I've made quite a number of tweaks to the theme but I am looking to have some custom work to finish it off for good.  The features on this new software seem to outweigh the old site quite a bit.  But, just wondering how all of you are liking it so far?!

I think we are "over the hump" now and it's better than the old site. Thanks again for all the hard work.

I like the recent tweaks. Especially that you reduced the width of the left menu to allow for more content per screen. Could you maybe reduce some of the white space at the top of every screen as well? (Between the current location bar and the thread title?)

Thank you!  As far as the white space, can you send me a screenshot?

He might be talking about the space created in the body of a reply by the requirement to fit all of the member information in on the left.  It extends the length of each post.  You'd have to shrink the avatar and/or close up the gaps to do it.  I added a picture.

The site keeps looking better and better.  The key for me is that I don't think about "I wish this was different" or "that's not working" or "I can barely see that" anymore.  I just see content.  Looks good.

Edit - or maybe it's the space crated for ads - added another picture.

Thanks for the screenshots Zed, but I was talking about closer to the top of the page. Let's see if I can upload pic correctly... First one shows the white space I was talking about. Second one is a mockup showing a consolidation of the info reducing the white space.

Of course, if this is space reserved for required ads, then forget the request. I didn't even think about that and there's nothing we can do about that...

The blank space at the very top will be reserved for our main graphic (like the old site).  I'm still working on that one.  But, the area below that is where you are supposed to see an ad.  How come the ads aren't showing up on your side?  Are you running an ad blocker?

The other blank space shown by Zed Head are typical for short posts in the forums.  The sentences on short posts typically don't fill out the block and there is left over space at the bottom.  The blank space on the bottom of the post, and to the left of the small ad, is just there because I haven't figured out how to do something with it yet.  ;)

PS:  If you are running an ad blocker, please consider disabling it as we count on the exposure to survive.  I've done my best to keep the ads as least annoying as possible, believe me.

OK, so that space is for ads. Not much we can do about that.

I'm not running any blocker software that I know of. I've got my security settings pretty tight because I keep getting malware crap from assorted places, but I've not purposely disabled anything here.

I've got cookies completely off for everything except sites that I manually allow (like this one), and I've got a couple other security settings pretty high. Might that have something to do with it?

  • 2 weeks later...

Mike, I've noticed that when you want link to an Image that has an extension of .BMP, the forum will not allow. Shows in preview but when you go to Post the reply, you get an error message along the lines of " That extension is not allowed in this Community". I think it's just a selection of allowed extensions that has to be Toggled on.

I've gotten around it by saving the Image to my desktop, opening with MS Paint, saving the file as a >JPG, uploading to Photobucket and then using that link to display in the Post Reply. A bit of a PITA to be sure.

All the rest looks good. Thanks for your continued hard work

Edit: Need more Emoticons LOL

Hi Mike,

I just upgraded my home computer and went with a  Unix operating system.  Is this site not compatible with Unix??  Every time I try to bring up the site, I just get a blue banner that says ClassicZcars.com and nothing else.

Marty

For Marty: OS shouldn't matter and I think you meant Linux ( Unix based ). What Browser are you using? Try FireFox for Linux. Chrome for Linux may have compatibility issues. Also make sure you have added Shockwave Player and Flash Shockwave for FireFox.

PM me if you continue to have issues.

Linux, right, LOL!!! My son's computer tech friend built the computer for me and convinced me to try Linux.  It's totally new to me, so I am trying to figure it out.  Yep, I am using Chrome.  Thanks for the tip on FireFox and Shockwave.  I will give them a try.

Thanks again!
