Well, if you are reading this, you're now using our new website design!  Welcome to the new look of The Classic Zcar Club.  I just wanted to take a moment and let all of you know this latest project has been an extreme labor of love.  After testing this over the last several months, I've been able to migrate all of our data within a period of just a few days.  While there is still more work to be done, the website is now ready for you guys to jump back in with both feet.

All of our data has been migrated.  If you are looking for something that was in our old site, please give me another few days to bring it online.  All of the data is here, but, most of it has been disabled for viewing until I have a chance to go through and formalize the permissions.

The old site is still online, you can see it at this URL:  http://legacy.classiczcars.com

In the next few days I'll be working to bring you all of the things you have been used to seeing on our site.  Feel free to reply to this message with your questions or concerns.  Thanks again for your patience and enjoy the site!

Mike

The "view new content" button at the top showed up sometime today. Which is great. It returns no results but the new content button at the bottom left of the page appears to be working FYI

Charles

The one up top works great.  But, it requires that you select the appropriate area after clicking.  From what I can see, it will always choose the section of the site that you're currently looking at and will show you the new topics -- for that area.  In other words, if you want to see the new topics from the forums, you have to be in the forums before you click the "View New Content" button.  If you want to see the new content from another area, like gallery for instance, you simply need to click on the corresponding checkbox on the left of the results.

Here's what I see if I click View New Content while I am on the home page, it's empty.

But if you look at the left side of the dialog, it will allow you to pick forums, here's what happens when I do that:

You can also select other "New Content" options as well, such as how far back you want to go and other very powerful options:

There are some pretty powerful options in there, so it looks like we just need to spend some time digging into the features.

Mike, Thanks very much for all your hard work. I'd be lost without this place!

Of course, I've got some suggestions. I'm not known for leaving well enough alone...

1)  It's the engineer in me, but I'm a big fan of "no wasted space". The dark gray box (with the navigation links) on the left is very nice looking when you're at the top of a page, but once you pan down a screenfull beyond the box links, it's wasted space. In fact, by the time you've scrolled all the links off the page, that bar is maybe one fifth the width of the page. That means you're wasting 20% of the entire page just to reserve the vertical width for that panel. Can you please place the links horizontal across the top of the page so it doesn't have to take up space in the post area below?

And please, please, please don't "fix" it by making that a floating box that always follows along as you scroll down. Then it would be wasteful AND distracting.

Also in the wasted space category is the ocean scene background... I can see a tiny silver of it poking out from behind the rest of the content. Not enough to make it even matter. Can you just make that go away and save everyone the bandwidth?

2) I don't need to see my avatar picture in that box when I'm logged in. I know what it looks like... I don't need it there the entire time I'm logged in.

3) I tried the tablet theme (just to see if it was any easier to read) and I think I like the format better there. But there are a couple cleanup things there you haven't gotten to.

a) Says "GestureHD" at the top of the page.

B) Hit "More - Extra Links"  :)

c) "b right paren" is interpreted as a smiley.

4) And lastly (for now?) I'm with Zed Head... Darker gray font on lighter gray background is all artistic and stuff, but I find it very hard to read. Please up the font size a notch or two and make the color true black?

PS - Also just noticed that I can't change the font size mid-stream? I have to start at the very beginning of the post?

Thanks again for everything you do, and please don't stop. Ever!!!

Couple more quick things...

1) What's the difference between "The Classic Zcar Club" link on the left and the "Home" link? When you hover over them, they seem they would take you to different destination pages, but when you hit them, you end up on the same page regardless of which choice you clicked. Seems like either a navigation issue or we don't need both of them?

2) The search function doesn't require log-in. I prefer it that way, but I'm not sure you did that on purpose.

Thanks again!!

I hate to be whiny and I do appreciate progress.  But the font in the posts is small and washed out.  The font in this window I'm typing in is darker, higher contrast, and bigger.  Easy to read.  It takes work to read the posts in the threads.  Any way to make the posts look like what I'm typing right now?  Even better, a little thicker and one size bigger.

Your post looks the same as the rest.  Apparently the changes you made are only showing up on your computer.  I guess that's something else that will have to be addressed.  'Tweaks' are always a part of this type of upgrade.

I think you misunderstood... What Zed is saying is that the font in the "compose window" (when you are typing a response to a post as I am right now) is larger and easier to read then what it looks like after you are done replying to a post and hit "Add Reply".

Once you hit "Add Reply" and your post is added to the bottom of the thread and you're looking at the whole thing, the font gets smaller.

In other words, when you are in the process of composing, it uses one font. But when you are done composing and view the whole thread, it uses a different smaller and lighter font. Once you're done, it's the same font as everyone else, but while you are CREATING the post, it's larger.

Okay.  Bottom line is the posts still look washed out so some type of tweak is still needed.

Thanks, Mike

The view new posts button has always been my friend. So just needed a little clarification

If you click VIEW NEW CONTENT then check FORUM it shows the latest post.  When you're on that page bookmark it to your favorites.  On mine it is titled "New Content-The Classic Zcar Club".  So when I open up the forum it goes straight to New Content- Forums.

Will the blue arrow that takes you straight to the last post be back?  It took me 2 years to figure that trick out.

Ok, I found the equivalent button.  See my screenshot below.  To get to this page, you have to click on "View New Content" in the upper right.  Click on forums (if it's not already selected).  Now look at the RIGHT side, you'll see the username and a date/time below that.  Click on the date/time and you'll jump to the last post.  Pretty awesome!
