Progress On My 1970 240Z...

well, I got the car. Then I got the flu. Then I got pneumonia. Been a rough month or so. Fortunately, while I've been laid up in bed, Ive been able to sort out getting some parts Ive needed, while the friend helping me with the car has been able to get some initial stuff done with it.

-First, it seems that I got a pretty solid car to start. My mechanic looked it over, and theres not too much to do from an engine standpoint. Runs nicely, pulls hard, tranny doesn't slip- no big bugaboos.

-Body and frame are pretty solid. There is some surface rust on the frame rails, and a couple of small holes/pits in the body. Even the battery tray is in decent shape. Going to get ready to do the body work in about two weeks (assuming I am feeling better at that point)

Whats been done so far:

-Carpets replaced.

-Dash lights all replaced with LEDs.

-Tach PARTIALLY fixed- works most of the time now, but about 1/4 of the time will wave around wildly under hard acceleration.

-Retrosound head unit installed, with integrated 6x9 box in the back.

-Door sill trim pieces cleaned up and/or replaced.

-Crap mag wheels replaced with 1971 'z' caps and steel wheels. Not the right year, but a) I don't like the 'D' hubcaps, and B) good luck finding a clean set.

Whats coming soon:

-Seat re-upholstery kits came today.

-Seat foam too.

-flush heater core.

-ordered Black Dragon JDM style chrome bumpers. I really gave thought to the stainless variety, but the luster of chrome was more attractive- besides, this car will be living in a garage for the foreseeable future, and the original bumpers only have some minor surface rust in 43 years.

(BTW, anyone want to buy a set of reasonably clean US spec original 1970 bumpers?)

Have most of the exterior trim and OEM side mirror to install once the body work is done.

Will post pics before and after once I can function well out of bed.

Best,

-Andy
