Brake Overhaul Question

CDL1542

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I have decided to upgrade the front brakes in my 11/70 240z. I ordered cross drilled/slotted rotors and the 4 piston caliper kit from MSA and before I install them I have a few questions. With the new calipers will I need to upgrade the brake master cylinder? What about the brake booster? If anyone has any experience with this, I'd greatly appreciate the input! I'm also leaving the stock drums on the rear!

Be careful on HybridZ... they have a history of banning people.  You may consider just joining to see the photos that are hidden.  Asking questions there is not always welcome. LOL

I've been on forums like that before. I never could understand it... Why should people make the same mistakes time and time again when just asking a simple question can clear so much up? I'll keep that in mind though and probably just ask questions here as necessary. Everyone has been more than helpful so far, and there is a wealth of knowledge here.

I think Jon got that exactly right except when he said let's look at some other brake *upgrade* options. None of those clearly upgrades without some cost. The stock brakes in good serviceable condition are perfectly adequate. Those 4 piston Toyota calipers add at least 4 pounds of unstrung weight per side.

Here is a little more to think about - http://www.silverminemotors.com/

I made the upgrade last year - there is better stopping power without a doubt. Buy the best rotors and pads you can get - you get what you pay for.  Be sure to ditch the S curve if your set up wil allow it - they are a pain the AZZ to bend and get drip free.

I already have the new calipers at home. An extra 8 pounds total doesn't really bother me though... My weight varies more than that from when I wake up in the morning and go to sleep at night!

Travel'n Man: Any information on how to properly delete that S curve?
