January 24, 201510 yr comment_462395 Hey, once my 240 is done, I'm down. Until then, my DD Z31 can make the trip without an issue. She ain't pretty, but she's quick and gets great fuel economy.Purchase cost: $330 plus $75 in fuel and $40 for food/drinksLight rebuild: $1300Sheet metal: $225ERW tubing: $100Paint: $1500Having a friend's uncle do the job at his shop: $500 (if I remove most of the paint and strip the chassis)Brakes and suspension: $700Fluids and tune up: $300Fender Flares: $250~But that's basically a full restoration from the ground up (excluding bushings and any missing bolts I have to replace) for $5320 and an estimated 120-50 hours. And I've got 4 months to do it. Paint will be last naturally. So $3320 in 4 months. It's certainly doable. January 31, 201510 yr comment_462718 I have spent 3500 dollars since Christmas on basic maintenance such as brakes, exhaust, carbs, electrical, tires, suspension and general touch up.It will be a couple grand more to make it like new but I figure that is still cheaper than a new car, plus it is the car I want to drive. January 31, 201510 yr comment_462722 I don't keep track of what I spent on my Z. If I did I probably would'nt have bought it in the first place. Yer yer I know it a 280Z and not worth much anyway, but its still fun to play with . My 2 cents Chas Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/50634-cost-of-ownership/?&page=2#findComment-462722 Share on other sites
