Typos In Series I Owners Manual

Found a NOS Series I owners manual on ebay. After winning the bid, I re-read the description and discovered it was actually a Nissan re-print from 1997 for their re-build program. 

 

It didn't take long to read through its 40 pages. Chuckled when I considered my 2015 Mazda 6 owner's manual was over 600 pages long, with a smaller font, and warranty and service info printed in separate documents.

 

However, I found what appears to be typos in the Z's manual. Was wondering if anyone with an original manual could verify whether Nissan erred in 1997 or whether the errors also appeared in the original.

 

Specifically, on Page 15, the rightmost panel text describes the horn button but the picture shows the rear window defroster switch. In fact, the rear window defroster is never mentioned!

 

On page 25, in the Recommended SAE Viscosity Number chart, the labels for "Single Viscosity" and "Multi-viscosity" are reversed.

 

Also, the wiring diagram looks like no other I've seen with the battery in the top row.

 

Anyone with an original manual, your comments please.

That's cool, I've  never seen the re-print manual from '97.  Here is a link discussing a few of the versions covering the '69 builds as well as the '70.

I don't have the proper one for my 10/70 but looked at one dated 15th November, 1970 and page 15 seems correct with the description and illustration of the defroster switch on the far right of the page. The earlier cars did not have a rear window defroster, in North America anyhow.

My manual is the one dated 15 November, 1970, which seems to have corrected the items djwarner describes in his 1997 repro manual. 

The 1997 repro manual appears to be for the earliest series 1 cars as it, also, does not address or describe operating instructions for the automatic

transmission, which my manual does address.

 

It does appear that djwarner's repro manual is an accurate copy of the earliest manual when comparing it with blue's online manual.

The 1997 reproduction is incorrect.  The original manual shows a picture of the steering wheel and horn button.

They are also reversed in the original manual.

The wiring diagrams appear to be the same - original / reproduction.

The original owner's manuals were printed in Japan and the reproduction manuals made for the Vintage Z program were "printed in U.S.A."  As with the original printing, manuals associate to model year and the 1970 model year reproduction manual is publication No. OM2E-0S30G0 while the reproduction manual for the 1972 model year is OM2E-0S30U3.  I don't have a 1971 model year reproduction manual.  The viscosity issue is correct in the 1972 version and, interestingly, it has no wiring diagram.  BTW, I have two copies of the 1972 repro manual if anyone wants to trade me for a 1971.

Thanks for the input. BTW, my page 10 shows item #27 Throttle Control Lever even though it was never offered in the US. Other images of the area do not show it.

I find it interesting that there are so many versions of the manual that were printed in 1969/1970. So far in this topic and the link pointed to by Geezer there are five versions:

 

20 DEC 69

15 JAN 70

20 MAR 70

30 MAY 70

15 NOV 70

 

I wonder if there are more.

 

Also the page 15 in my 20 MAR 70 manual differs slightly from the page 15 Geezer posted above from his 15 NOV 70 version.

 

 

 

 

Also my manual has none of the stickers to cover changed data, or any references showing the hand throttle lever next to the choke, it does have the four pages of consumer information.

 

Strangely just last week I received a package from Audi Canada with stickers to correct errors in the owners manual for my 2013 A5.

The original manual for my car came with it.  Car was built 08/70, purchased at Datsun of Los Angeles on 9/30/1970 but is titled a '71.  The manual says on the back "Issued Date: 20th July 1970 (050500)"  Below that it says "Printed in Japan Publication No. OM0E-0S30U3"  Hopefully that helps and does not add to the confusion.
