Fuel Line Help?

Hi all, I've done some searching but can't find others solutions ... i had to replace the gas tank on my 240 so I purchased a beautiful (really) used tank. When preping to put it all back on the car,  I noticed both of the lines coming out of the front of the tank (return and inlet) are 5/16" .... the return line on my car is 1/4" hard line...

The tank may have been from a later model, mine is a 72' it fits perfect otherwise.

What have others on the forum used as a reducer for this? Or am i the first to run across this?

Thanks in advance.

Reducer not really necessary and adds 2 more hose clamps. If you warm up the 1/4" line (use new fuel hose, not fuel injection hose) with really hot water or a hair dryer or heat gun on low it should slip right over the 5/16" fitting. Try real hard not to move the fitting on the tank as they are notorious for breaking loose and then leaking. Try holding the fitting  with careful use of a small vice-grip. Of course be really careful when using heat sources around fuel tanks. I am assuming that the tank is empty. Good luck. This is much easier with the tank out of the car, but not impossible with it in place.

Cheers, Mike
