Posted January 5, 201510 yr comment_461303 When I first got my 77 there was a lot to do. The normal like suspension, Interior, Rust, etc, etc……. But one of the nagging things in back of my brain was the butt-ugly ashtray. I don't smoke but I still had to look at it all the time. It were nasty. After searching for a decent replacement with no luck I decided to work it out the best I could. Wire wheel, sandpaper and steel wool. Finally painted with Rustoleum Metallic Silver and it looked pretty good considering It will only hold smallish things now. Knowing it will get a little wear and tear I put a spray coat of Polyurethane for protection. Now it looks great and I can celebrate another small victory in my ongoing re-fresh. Side by side picture is with another ashtray that was in about the same shape as the re-do. What do you think? January 5, 201510 yr comment_461305 very nice - i just painted mine black because it was so pitted from corrosion...the next thing i wanted to do was replace the sliding lid with the aluminum one from a 240 because i just like the look a little better - does anyone know if they will swap without serious modification? January 5, 201510 yr comment_461321 Those are some nice seats! Are they Z seats that have been recovered or are they out of another car? Ashtray looks great too. They make a good can holder. January 5, 201510 yr Author comment_461330 Thanks, those are the original Z seats with new foam and re-covered with faux leather (vinyl) covers off ebay. I like 'em. January 6, 201510 yr comment_461347 I believe the technical term for that amount of angular displacement is "Schwing!" I've also heard the term "boiiinngngng", but I don't hear that measurement unit as much anymore and I think it has gone out of fashion like furlongs and fortnights. January 6, 201510 yr comment_461359 Totally off topic I know, but where my ashtray used to live has become my travel cup/ water bottle holder. Cheers, Mike Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/50730-ashtray-re-do/#findComment-461359 Share on other sites
