Posted January 9, 201510 yr comment_461549 Hey does anybody know this car? Looks like the market for good early cars is still on the up! http://www.ebay.com/itm/Datsun-Z-Series-WATCH-VIDEO-MUSEUM-QUALITY-COLLECTORS-CONCOURS-NEW-1970-Datsun-240Z-Series-INVESTORS-/281544553219?forcerrptr=true&hash=item418d5cf303&item=281544553219&pt=US_Cars_Trucks Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/50757-ebay-sale-nice-price/ Share on other sites

January 9, 201510 yr comment_461551 That car is the subject of at least one if not more threads on here. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/50757-ebay-sale-nice-price/#findComment-461551 Share on other sites
January 9, 201510 yr comment_461556 I was figuring the Z would sell for about half the claimed restoration cost. http://www.classiczcars.com/topic/50351-1970-240z-for-sale-stunning-restoration/?p=458429 Looks like the (former) owner got that...as well as a fair comission for the selling agent. January 9, 201510 yr comment_461570 49k damn that's alot. Personally I see many reason's why I wouldn't give that much money for that Z, although it's an early model with 240z on the side pillar. It seems the dash is also repaired and then texture painted, don't like it, it's to rough. Also a completely restored 240Z won't give you that " old " feel to it. But that's just my personal opinion. January 9, 201510 yr Author comment_461576 Now I remember this car! Been away for a couple of weeks in Kona and Iforgot about this one. Yeah there are a lot of inconsistencies in the build.Still the final selling price is interesting. Bart, I think a restored 43 year old car will still feel like a 43 year old car! I'm not sure I want that "worn out" feel! :: Any way, It gives me hope that I would be able to recoup some of my costs in the rebuild/resto that whitehead is doing for me! On another note, I saw a nice lime green Z AND a nice orange one in Kona over the holidays. Both looked to be 73 or older models,I couldn't stop either time. I think one was at Snorkel Bob's in Kona. Belong to anyone here? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/50757-ebay-sale-nice-price/#findComment-461576 Share on other sites

Belong to anyone here? Hey i live here and i've never seen the lime green z. I think i know the orange one you're talking about. It belongs to an older gentlelman that works at the costco gas station. He bought it new and he always asks me questions about mine when i gas up in my z. If you look at the people who are bidding on the car, there is one guy with zero feedback. When i see stuff like that i think scam. the last legitimate looking bidder stopped at 37k. January 9, 201510 yr comment_461578 It is reassuring and somewhat vindicating to see a solid example fetch that price. However, part of me hopes the early Z market does not get too exuberant attracting speculators, who will start driving up the cost of parts even higher than they are now. I felt kind of foolish a few years ago paying $50 for a 4-speed shift knob from Courtesy Nissan to keep as a spare. I looked on ebay today and was floored to see the same part going for triple the price! This makes me want to store the original NOS exhaust system I been hoarding under my bed for safe keeping Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/50757-ebay-sale-nice-price/#findComment-461578 Share on other sites
January 9, 201510 yr Author comment_461583 Hey hr369, man you live in a beautiful place! I was driving in traffic on Alii drive when I saw the lime green one, maybe I was mistaken, I did have sunglasses on! Could have been yellow I suppose, what colour is yours? January 9, 201510 yr comment_461585 Hey hr369, man you live in a beautiful place! I was driving in traffic on Alii drive when I saw the lime green one, maybe I was mistaken, I did have sunglasses on! Could have been yellow I suppose, what colour is yours? Mine is black with panasports. You should see my commute. I have to slap myself sometimes. Very few places on this planetyou can see whales jumping out of bright blue water on your way to work in the winter. Did you see all the private jets parkedat the airport? Man the economy must be improving bigtime. As far as collectible datsuns here on this island... I once saw a very pristine early 70's skyline come out of that ultra rich enclave ofHualalai resort. The baby boomers are retiring in droves and the ones that have the cash will pay a good price. The best retirement savings plan is buying NOS parts and good cars. I would be shocked though if a 240z is ever worth 50k unrestored. If i were in the market for a 40k$ 240z, i'de import a ZG from japan Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/50757-ebay-sale-nice-price/#findComment-461585 Share on other sites
January 10, 201510 yr Author comment_461591 Yeah, I'm an Air Traffic Controller and I could not beleive the number of private jets parked on the apron! We had a great time in your town, the night snorkel with Manta rays was incredible! I tend to agree with you about prices on Zeds, I think there are too many around still for prices to go to 50K. Nice to see good ones fetching some decent money, though. Belong to anyone here? I don't mean a worn out one. But like if you have a 71 Z that has been well kept in garages, serviced and un-restored during it's life time, or a 71 that has been used intensively and than restored. There's a difference in that.
