November 20, 20159 yr Author comment_481347 Also, i should have assumed there had been damage under the replaced quarter panel.... Just was hoping it was due to rust instead... November 20, 20159 yr comment_481385 I don't think the car is heavy enough to bend those even if you lifted by them. Is it possible the car went off road and hit something? Are there any other marks on the bottom of the control arms? The tank doesn't look good, might leak like a sieve after the rust is removed. The fuel sender could be cleaned with some rust dissolver but would probably need to be disassembled first. The bends are "up" at the same point so it looks like the car was lifted hard or slammed down onto something. No other visible witness marks to anything else. I assume the car had received a rear passenger side impact after discovering the replaced quarter and the dented tank. If the bends were "down" I might have thought it was strapped down too hard onto a low bed or frame rack or something. No real reason for it really.... I plan on trying to restore the sending unit. Other than rust, it doesn't look damaged at all. The tank is looking more and more like a purge, clean, cut apart, repair, weld and seal job to me more and more.... November 20, 20159 yr comment_481390 Well if the car isn't full of fuel the rear of the car probably only weighs 700 pounds or so, just guessing. I can't imagine that is enough to bend a roughly 1" pipe but maybe...it is strange Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/50908-1976-280z-restoration-project/?&page=24#findComment-481390 Share on other sites
November 20, 20159 yr Author comment_481391 In the end I'm not heartbroken over the rear arms. I really want the Techno Toy Tuning ones anyways so this is a minor issue. Getting the spindle pins out will be more fun... November 21, 20159 yr comment_481421 I don't know anything about the quality and fit of this custom fuel tank but I run across it when doing Tampa Craigslist searches. It looks very interesting and I thought you might also be interested. http://tampa.craigslist.org/hil/pts/5288489852.html Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/50908-1976-280z-restoration-project/?&page=24#findComment-481421 Share on other sites
