April 17, 20177 yr Author comment_518241 New adjusted line Thanks to 7tooZ I found my line was almost 1/4" out. I actually mounted the door panel and pulled the line along the door crease as well. Using his measurements I was able to confirm the proper line along the door and quarter panel. April 17, 20177 yr Author comment_518243 Retaped the line and filled it again with fibreglas. Smoothed it out and now I am very happy with this starting point for the body line. April 17, 20177 yr comment_518255 Looks really neat Mark. Very nice line even without the final paint it looks impresive. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/50908-1976-280z-restoration-project/?&page=103#findComment-518255 Share on other sites
April 17, 20177 yr Author comment_518284 Thanks Chas! This is the first time I have attempted any real bodywork. I am enjoying the learning experience and looking forward to the sanding and blocking phase. This rough work is more structural than aesthetic. I am hoping to have something close to 95% of the correct shape before I start the finish work. April 18, 20177 yr Author comment_518386 I am blessed with ignorance. If I really understood what I was in for at each stage I would have given up years ago... April 18, 20177 yr comment_518390 On a car as small a Z, the work is not that bad all things considered. A few years ago, I was at this stage with my '52 Chevy 3100. Now, that was a chore. I also question the use of fiberglass reinforced filler. Not necessary with modern fillers and I am sure you are not laying it on thick. Good luck on your task and progress as I am sure it will be stunning in the end given your attention to detail.
