February 22, 20196 yr comment_569063 This looks great, waiting to see how the defroster and vent ducts fit. I'm guessing there's plenty of room for your radio or stereo? February 22, 20196 yr Author comment_569066 I’ll be using a Retrosound unit probably so lots of room. The HVAC controls look like this so they are very small. The slider type didn’t fit properly. I did a quick check with the defrost vents as they will be the most difficult. It seems there will be just enough room to run them! February 22, 20196 yr comment_569095 Defroster vent hoses was the hardest part of my system hookup. It is hard to get non-double jointed hands and fingers up in there. I had the right one come off after the install and had to remove the glove box to get at it. Even then it was an adventure lying on my back in the right footwell with the seat out trying to get the hoses back on the defroster vent by the windshield. FYI, I used the original vent hoses and once they were in place I haven't had to touch them since. I had installed a Hot Rod Air system very much like the one you are working with. Unfortunately they went out of business. Cheers, Mike Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/50908-1976-280z-restoration-project/?&page=200#findComment-569095 Share on other sites

Even then, I installed and removed the Evap unit 50 times yesterday! ugh. February 22, 20196 yr Author comment_569103 So, on to the centre vent stack. I picked up some supplies. A section of eaves trough foam, some acrylic plastic sheet, a plumbing pipe reducer and one foam gasket. First thing was to remove the transfer section in the dash. Then I cut out the side diffuser panels and trimmed off the side vent outlet tubes. The foam eaves trough material was the perfect shape to fill the void and great non-turbulent air flow. Then I trimmed the acrylic sheet to fit and opened a hole for the plumbing adapter to connect to the 2” vent hose. I then trimmed front and back with foam gasket and then bolted the acrylic sheet onto the transfer panel. Looks pretty good! February 22, 20196 yr Author comment_569126 Finally got the fill plug removed from the tranny. That allowed me to clean it all up and give it a shot of paint. February 22, 20196 yr comment_569130 I was able to wiggle mine loose with the cable end, screwed on just by a couple threads. IIRC Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/50908-1976-280z-restoration-project/?&page=200#findComment-569130 Share on other sites
February 23, 20196 yr Author comment_569144 I’ll try that. It seems pretty tight for a friction fit. The locking key came out easy.
