September 25, 20177 yr Author comment_531011 Some shots of the front spindles before welding. Powder coated all over except the spindles and the band around the strut that will receive the weld. September 25, 20177 yr Author comment_531012 Mounted the freshly powder coated fuel pump bracket. The rubber covered wire wraps did not fair well in the oven but I will strip them and recoat them in plastidip before I'm done. September 26, 20177 yr comment_531018 Won't the welding burn the plastic of the coating? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/50908-1976-280z-restoration-project/?&page=132#findComment-531018 Share on other sites
September 26, 20177 yr Author comment_531022 Won't the welding burn the plastic of the coating? The powder coat is cured at 450 degrees. The welding will be done with wet rags around the spindles and anti splatter spray on the exposed parts. Shouldn't be an issue. October 1, 20177 yr Author comment_531445 Welding day yesterday...First we MIG'd the struts with a tack to get the right offset from the collars. I wanted a good clean bite for the stick welds. Then a solid bead around the collars. Next step, clean up the welds and paint the exposed metal.
