Finally finished up the ignition unit. Looks nice and neat now!

And got the steering rack apart. Now to clean the sucker!

Surprisingly, the lower pinion bearing came out without a fight. It was not pressed completely to the bottom so I was able to lift it out with a bolt head!

Rack is done! What do you think of my colour scheme?

Looks really good. I like  that color combo.

Do you have the part numbers for the bushings you used? 

I bought the prothane bushings from Techno Toy Tuning and they DO NOT fit. I have to order the energy suspension ones.

Yeah, I was gonna say... The paint scheme looks great, but those bushings still look like they are trouble.

Here's to hoping the new bushings are a better fit. And don't forget to address that big gap on the end by the steering box. It won't get any better if you try to install it the way you have it. I'm not sure if all the mfgrs have the same sharp internal corner or not.

I totally agree. The bushings will be replaced with correct fitting ones. These pics were more to give an idea of the finished look and colour scheme. The feedback I got was to minimize the red in the rack, so I went this way with the colours. Even in the picture of the Energy Suspension bushings, you can see how the two part bushing is going to be a better fit.

Are those new inner tie rods or just the old ones cleaned up? Look new to me.

Brand new from TTT. They are right right for future ease of replacement. Not that I should have to with the TTT outers...

 

Wow, you guys are making me want to refurbish my rack.

I was surprised how easy it was really. Even the bearing removal went easy for me.
