February 14, 20187 yr comment_542332 Mark, I was looking back through the thread at your sound deadening. I didn't see what brand you bought. Do you like it? Any strong odors? Any peeling? I have been looking online but the reviews are all over the place. Evidently if you mess up and use the wrong product you end up with a sticky gooey mess Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/50908-1976-280z-restoration-project/?&page=157#findComment-542369 Share on other sites
February 15, 20187 yr comment_542370 Did you use the "Ultimate" or the "Extreme"? I assume the Vcomp was for the firewall pad? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/50908-1976-280z-restoration-project/?&page=157#findComment-542370 Share on other sites
February 15, 20187 yr Author comment_542372 I used the ultimate butyl product and the vcomp is for the floor and firewall. I haven’t installed that yet. I also used aluminum duct tape to seal the joints in any exposed areas like the hatch and spare tire well. February 16, 20187 yr comment_542477 Clean enough to eat off. Looks great. Did you remember to mark the parts so you get them back together the same way?   Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/50908-1976-280z-restoration-project/?&page=157#findComment-542477 Share on other sites

Did you remember to mark the parts so you get them back together the same way?   Why yes I did! A chorus of forum voices echoed through my head as I prepped the piece... "did you mark the mating ends?", "did you mark each end separately for tranny and diff?" ... I also removed a whack of undercoating over-spray from the shaft. That must have been an issue with balance, so much of it on one side versus the other... yeesh. February 16, 20187 yr comment_542510 I looked at my 240Z prop shafts and that divot that Nissan took off of the yoke ears in interesting. I'll bet they used it to expose the cups so that they could clamp them down while staking. If you want some insurance for the clips, you could use one of the billion grades of gap-filling Loctite. Designed to lock bearing races down, which is what the cup is. Spendy but might be worth peace of mind. It could lock the clips on too, so they don't rotate and pop off. They have too many to know which might be best. http://na.henkel-adhesives.com/industrial/green-threadlockers-pre-assembled-wicking-13227.htm Edited February 16, 20187 yr by Zed Head typo-rama Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/50908-1976-280z-restoration-project/?&page=157#findComment-542510 Share on other sites
