March 27, 20187 yr comment_545823 Mark, I can't remember what engine you're putting in your beauty, I don't want to hunt through 78 pages. March 27, 20187 yr Author comment_545825 I keep telling myself it will be the numbers matching L28 that was in it to begin with, albeit a little refreshed and cleaned up with new billet fuel rail and shaved intake. Now that I am going with an engine management system, I will be adding a wilder cam, flat tops and possibly a head shave and bore, ported head and intake, custom exhaust.... and so it goes!I will definitely have an L28 in there, just not sure how wild it will be. A lot depends on what’s left in the bank after the body is done. If I win the lottery, I will be calling Dave Rebello.... March 28, 20187 yr Author comment_545829 Well let’s just go with “original” parts. The PO lost the engine bay plate before I got the car, so I assumed the plate would have the engine number on it. The PO did confirm that the car was all original parts when I got it. March 28, 20187 yr comment_545831 Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think 280's had matching #'s with engine blocks and chassis, thus the blank on the engine bay plate. Mine is blank also. 240's did and I'm not sure 260's did. March 28, 20187 yr comment_545833 What number is above the brake booster? The vin#? Can't remember. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/50908-1976-280z-restoration-project/?&page=162#findComment-545833 Share on other sites
March 28, 20187 yr Author comment_545834 The VIN is over the brake booster. I wasn’t aware the engine block number was blank on the 280’s engine bay plate! March 28, 20187 yr comment_545835 Well, It's not exactly blank. It just says L28. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/50908-1976-280z-restoration-project/?&page=162#findComment-545835 Share on other sites
March 28, 20187 yr comment_545836 I think that they stopped in 1977. I have a numbers matching 1976 car, but the engine is in the garage, not in the car. It has the engine from a 1978 car that did not have the engine number on the ID plate. But the engine has a number stamped on it. Short - my 76 has an engine serial number on the ID plate, my 78 parts car did not.
