Powersterring leak!

Recommended Posts

Hi guy´s I have a 280ZXT from 83´ and today I noticed that it had puked almost all the hydraulic fluid from the powersteering on the road!:( I can see that the fluid is dripping from the rubber cover(the thing that is rippeld) Now is this a common failure ? Like ohh just replace the left sealing etc? In the first days( 1.5 years ago) when I just got my Z I rember that I sometimes forced the steering wheel into the right position to fit my steering wheel lock with the engine turned off! could this had caused any damage? It didn´t feel right so I stopped doing it but maybe it was too late:stupid:

Before It had the leakage I also noticed some noice form the powersteering when ever I turn the wheels full out to the end both sides.

Any help or experince on this subject would be appreciated !!

Thanks in advance

Sounds like your steering rack has gone bad. Should not be caused by anything in particular that you have done. It is just something that happens with age. Mustangs are notorious for this. That noise you heard when things were still cold is called morning sickness. That is usually a tell tale sign that the seals in the rack are giving up.

Just get a remand rack and put it in there. Try not to go with used unless you have to, as they might be on their last legs as well.
