Body Shop Wants Cash - Normal ?

Maaco wants cash for the insurance work, about $4000. No cashiers check etc.

Expected to just sign the insurance check (payable to me) over to them. No big deal, just seems odd.

Are they cutting you a break on price for cash? Often, one can get a discount for cash rather than paying by credit card. The other thought is that they want to do the work off the books and not have to declare the income. No paper trail, no taxes.

Maybe they have a policy on 3rd party cheques?

With so much fraud these days it is probable.

I would make three payments . One when they are ready,one when they do something and one when you are happy.

Just curious but why use MAACO for $4000 of insurance work? I've been hit and had hail damage a couple times and the insurance covered having a good shop do the work.

I agree!  Find a real body shop that does decent work

We call them "shake and bake" around here and that isn't good but maybe they do better work in Redondo Beach.

Dig it, had a bad feeling about that shop, not just the cash thing. It seemed kind of like a "pretend" body shop. One time when I went to see if they were done with the estimate, a pissed-off customer was there. Except for one time when they were painting, didn't see any work being done.  There was a guy looking at a car. Finally he pushed it about ten feet. A few minutes later he pushed it back.

 

Found an independent shop I like today, taking it there on Monday.
