Posted March 29, 201510 yr comment_466741 So the my fuel tank is in and the new fuel and vent lines under the car are done ; yayyy!,I expect the vent lines to the vent tank should be a snap in comparison. Do I need to loosen a line near the carbs and let the fuel pump push out any air before I try and start it. I expect there is probably a lot of air in the fuelThanksSteve Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/51204-first-start-after-gas-tank-refresh/ Share on other sites
March 30, 201510 yr comment_466748 Nope, you may wish to prime at the pump to get things flowing. You can suck it up and pinch the hose to the pump... been there. Also pull your plugs when you crank to get the fuel up to the motor w/o wearing out the battery. March 30, 201510 yr Author comment_466764 Thanks for the response Blue, but I'm note sure I follow your instructions.I understand pilling the plugs. How exactly do I prime the pump? IF Iinch the hose to the pump the pump won't draw. Also how will I know if the fuel is reaching the motor, that's why I was thinking of pulling a line by the carb. This is my first mechanical fuel pump not sure if I need to do anything in particular. Thanks for the help.Steve Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/51204-first-start-after-gas-tank-refresh/#findComment-466764 Share on other sites
March 30, 201510 yr comment_466765 What I did when starting with "empty" fuel system was to prime the carbs with fuel several times. The engine will run for short spurts, but will quickly pull fuel to the carbs. Much better than using the starter. March 30, 201510 yr comment_466774 Pinch the hose to keep the fuel in it while you reattach it. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/51204-first-start-after-gas-tank-refresh/#findComment-466774 Share on other sites
March 30, 201510 yr comment_466776 To prime my system after it sat for 26 years, was to pull the valve cover and operate the fuel pump arm manually until the fuel was in the filter and beyond.
