Will this work?

It might since the N-47 is the only head that used the round exhaust ports. You would probably be better off trying to find a P-90 head off the 280Zx Turbo's... Bolts right up in place of the N-47 with no trouble.... And it is designed to flow a little better as it was was used on the Turbos from the factory.

Well, if I remeber correctly putting a stock P90 head on a stock L26 block would give you about 7.5:1 compression, which may be to low for even a Turbo setup. I don't know for sure, not a Turbo expert. Any Turbo guru's out there???

Also, like the N47 the P79 heads had round exhaust ports.

You really would be best off to find a used complete Turbo motor, that way you would have the correct setup. Otherwise the square exhaust port alternative to a N47 would be an N42. They are otherwise the same except the N42 did not come stock with hardened vavle guides/seats.

Hope it helps!

Plenty difficult, because you'd need to fab up a custom exaust manifold or header to do the job. The P90/P90a is a square port head on the exaust side.

Yes, amazingly these were very low compression turbo cars, 7.4:1 Even nowdays alot of them are 8.5-8.8:1

The stock turbo car was made to run on 87 octane. Your only issue would be you dont have turbo pistons, so the ringlands wont be as strong. If you can find the engine, then take the whole thing, not just the topend/computer/fuelpump/wiring etc

I really have a 240z e88 engine it got confused but the conversation did answer my question. I am trying to increase the hp in my 240z and a 150 bucks didn't sound to expensive for a P-90 which I thought would work on my Z and you confirmed it would. Is there another route for around a 100 bucks that would make an sizable increase in Hp.

Now I am confused. Are you asking about heads or about headers?

If you put a stock P90 head on you stock L24 block you will end up with less power. That is unless you are going Turbo! I think this is what you are doing but I just wanted to clear things up.

Now there may be another problem with going to a P90 head on a L24. That is there may be a valve clearance issue! Maybe someone else could help but I believe there is potential for the larger valves of the 280ZX head hitting the sides of the cylinders in the smaller L24 block?

Sorry to have more questions than answers but I am hoping to save some headaches!

"Eyebrowing" of the block is recommended even if the larger valves don't end up touching the block. It will unshroud the valve as the valves are so close to the cylinder wall it will interfere with the incoming charge of air/fuel. You need to only do a slight clean up using the headgasket you will be using as a guide to eyebrow the tops of the cylinder walls between the cylinders.

I've got an N-42 on my L-24 and I doubt very seriously if whoever put it on there did any modifications to the block.... of course, maybe they just let the valves hammer the cylinder wall out of the way.....:cross-eye

But, since the valves are so close to the cylinder wall, eyebrowing would be a good idea or you won't be getting the full effect of having the larger valves in the first place...:ermm:

why would you spend the time and waste the money to make a turbo engine out of a non turbo?????

its is so much easier to just get the turbo motor and go from there. it is also more then just popping on a head and or changing this and that.

to do so honestly would be a waste especially since the turbo motors are plentiful.

just my .02:ermm:
